Errr? the comic is a retelling of the episodes and is not connected to the main 616 universe. So in short, the episodes came first, and then the comic retold the same story from the episodes as it's based off of the 1990's X-Men cartoon show.

They did, but modified them for TV and that comic you posted was a followup for the tv show. Just like how Justice League Unlimited or Teen Titans Go! are based off of their TV shows
Read xmen #137 and compare it to the X-Men Adventures comic and their pretty drastically different
