Define better? Imo the word better is subjective. Lets take the argument outside of comics. Lets use shoe brands for example..you might consider nike "better" than reebok. Someone else might like reebok, therefore it is better to them. So how can better be an objective point of view?
Back to Superman. My fav character right now is Jennifer Walters in her new "Hulk" run. Granted the action is non existant but the background characters/plot..even the impending sense of doom is well done. Is he physically superior? Sure. I mean hes a comic fans wet dream. Guy just tanked everything and is still standing (great feat btw..i initially loved it) but is he "better"? Is bench pressing incalcuable weights a scale by which we determine good reading material? Has the bar been dropped that low?
I like my comics to be intellectually dense like say Sandman/V for Vendetta/Watchman/Preacher/Maus etc...the best stories focus on plot and character portrayals as opposed to action scenes randomly strewn together by a vague plot. But i get it sometimes people would rather watch transformers u know..
