No, I think you're right about the retcon.

I was just replying to the addiction part.

They definitely toned it down to alcohol iirc.

Same, even though, in reference to what you said, alcohol addiction is no laughing matter even if I have to wonder how much the writer rates it in terms of severity.

Corsair's been travelling at near-lightspeed ever since that plane crash when Scott and Alex were still young. That's why he's aged much slower than Scott and they could almost pass as brothers now. (And brothers occasionally fight.)
