There's 3 electrons in that atom, so it symbolizes the lithium atom (Li). I can see how Dr. Manhattan would prefer hydrogen over lithium as his symbol. Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the Universe, and the primary fusion fuel for stars. As such, hydrogen is the main source of light, energy, and heavier elements in the Universe which, in turn, are responsible for the emergence and maintenance of Life in all its forms, including Jon Osterman.
Much more worthy of respect than lithium.
