This story had such a huge impact on me and made me a total IM fanboy. I wanted to see more Iron man stories like this with a dead serious edge. Explorations of the great achievements and equally great horrors of technology and the future. We did get a few more of those stories after but yeah...this kind of storytelling is Iron man at his best imo.

Extremis was hacked by the skrulls. Since then he basically had to create BE because at that point...extremis was done for. If you have any references I'd love to see them, but I can't remember a single instance of Tony using the extremis virus again outside of Superior Iron man(a story which comes with its own specific circumstances). And I definitely can't remember him using it in that black and gold modular armor. I understand the mindset that everything he's ever used is all rolled up into his armor to use at any time...but I've never really looked at the character like that. Also remember...the extremis armor was specifically designed to work in tandem with Tony's new processing speed. Assuming all the newer armors are too is fair...but it is still an assumption.

Tony referred to BE as "Extremis Plus" and mentioned random upgrades such as his cybernetic eyes.
Pretty sure he mentioned processing information in a picosecond in the extremis suit also.

True, but that absurd speed was a combination of his extremis power AND the armor he created for it. BE didn't have the blistering speed feats of Extremis and the Black and Gold didn't even have access to Bleeding edge or Extremis(based only on what was shown.)

It's because - after Ellis - writers didn't give much shit about that (very major) upgrade.
Hell, you can even see a time-displaced version of Captain America kicking Extremis IM's butt in Avengers/Invaders series...
It was still there, though. BE was meant to be an upgrade to Extremis. And Tony was shown switching between the Black-and-Gold and BE suits in Warzone just fine, so he didn't get rid of Extremis in his system.
You should also stop dissing that Black-and-Gold suit - the Punisher had no major problems kicking ass when in WM suit, yet he could barely operate the Black-and-Gold one... just as Stark couldn't [properly] operate the Extremis suit when he lost the virus. 😛
It's also a good moment to remind you that you were wrong about Osborn and his usage of the repulsor technology... the lack of thereof, actually.

The black and gold had its moments. Its a good suit and I'd even say its the pinnacle of power for what Tony achieved with just metal and repulsor tech...but BE and Extremis blew it away in raw ability and attack power. Remember that the BE was purged from Tony's system as well with the help of Reed Richards. He of course still has all the suits from his past to show off...whether they have all the same capabilities they had in the past is where the waters get muddy. Especially where extremis is concerned. But like I said...that speed shown during the extremis age was possible because of the virus AND the extremis armor designed to move at the speeds he was thinking. Black and Gold just didn't display those capabilities when it came to speed.
...also I think you mistook my question about Osborn using repulsor tech as a statement. It actually was an honest question. It looked like repulsor energy to me and I wasn't sure.

Yup, during the Long way down arc. Invincible Iron man #517 is when he purged BE.
Yeah Tony created Extremis again in Superior Iron man and sold it to people like a drug. It was a huge dickish move because of AXIS so I dunno...its anyone's guess if he still knows the formula for it...I just haven't seen any signs of it in him since that story.
