I dont know. The people rallying gave him more self confidence and determination, but does that really equate to him finding new found strength. He used strength he already had. Its like any character, person, animal, etc,,,. If you find yourself in a situation where you are testing yourself or seemingly trying your hardest, I guarantee that wont be the same as being in a life or death situation. That feat by Supes is nothing more than any athlete rising up due to the crowd cheering IMO.

Yep. Trying way to hard to push this character. The writer of this book is writing the lowest Superman I've seen and he needs to put the pencil down and hand it to someone else.
