Steel actually did pretty good in that fight and held his own. He even stopped a double hand crush from doomsday.

I agree, he shouldn't have but he did and he did an amzing job. Why did they state in that book that superman and steel are equals?

I don't think steel would have won and I don't believe that he thought this BUT his entire purpose was to slow the beast down and that is what he did.

Steel said he's using a strategy, at first I thought he's using him to stack a shitload of abilities and powers but after he defeated him the armor turned back so it's unlikely.

Well DD had at least some cognitive abilities, because Steel said that DD was attacking innocents to get Steel's attention.
