It could have also been the last thing Nintendo ever made.
Just because Sony took the concept and ran with it, doesn't mean Nintendo would have done the same. Also, Sony turned it into it's very own console, with a brand new marketing campaign, completely different to Nintendos.
You can't say whether or not Sony/Nintendos partnership could have been successful. It could have been a monumental flop just as easily.
