Good point.
I just went through the rosters again and realized that it was rather silly to pit the JLA versus the X-Men (comparatively the X-men are extremely weak ...exceedingly so, at least relatively. By themselves they are powerful, but not compared to the JLA).
I should have made it a trade between the JSA and the JLA.
Far more equitable.
Quickly going through the JLA roster made me realize that, honestly, there is virtually no X-man (apart from Ice man) who would REALLY qualify for JLA membership. Well, maybe Nightcrawler might (his teleporting powers would be appreciated, although it could be said that Martian Manhunter's phasing abilities are basically analogous to NCrawler's 'porting cabilities). Gambit may also be a good wildcard (although his ability to charge things with kinetic energy may be a moot point when one has the Flash who can simply toss things around at hyper velocities, and when he needs to blow things up simply vibrate through them). Storm might also make it for an interview (although a character like Superman has powers that can make up for a large part of her weather abilities, for example he can create strong wind gusts as well as use arctic breath to freeze things/characters).
The other members of the Xmen basically wouldn't amount to much in the JLA. For example the JLA telepaths (Aquaman and MM, especially MM who is not only an extremely capable telepath but also has other powers rippling through him) basically negate any need for Xavier, JEan and/or Emma.
The strength of Colossus and Rogue is ludicrous in the JLA (with characters like WW, MM and Superman).
Wolverine's claws .....probably the only people who might be interested in him are Batman (to see if he can come up with something to break adamantium, and maybe to see if he could train Wolvie to be a good attack dog) and FireStorm (to see how quickly he could replicate the molecular structure of adamantium). I doubt he would even be considered in the first place (seriously, what could he bring to the JLA? The ability to hack and slash? A healing factor? Weird hairstyles? A love for Canada? Cigars?) And while he may have good sensory powers what are they when compared to characters like Superman and Martian Manhunter who can detect the oscillation of sub-atomic particles?
Anyways, putting the JLA vs the JSA might have been more prudent.
