Is it just me or...........

Is everyone nowadays a dark tortured writer spewing morbid poetry about suicide in bathrooms? Or just a writer in general, no offense people but not everyone's cut for it, some of the stuff I've read recently around really sucks.

Or a self pronounced rock star, because they own one guitar, jamming in their parents' garage trying to convince some poor girl to sleep with them because they're waif thin and just need a home cooked meal?

Or a seasoned bi-sexual who can't find enough satisfaction with one sex so turns to both?

Or an environmentally friendly health nut, who doesn't mind paying like 6 bucks each half hour for a smoothie, and then complains that the styrofoam cups aren't biodegradable?

🤨

Like some e songs about people are such walking contradictions it's hilarious. And don't get me wrong, much love to people who are into this stuff, but who are in it for real, I've no respect for people who are "acting" to fit in.

So true. I also hate when people are like, "I don't like it, it's too mainstream." It's like, okay, so what??? I like Harry Potter and so does half the planet! If you don't like Harry Potter, then keep it to yourself. Making the point that Harry Potter is trendy is pointless to me. Go read that other book that no one else has ever heard of so you can discuss it with no one. Go sit in your dark little corner and be by yourself!!! Gosh!

hey wat about the whole EMO thing.
i looked it up and by description im a emo, but i don't go around pransing about in black.
hell naww, the only black i own are my superman undies.
and i don't get the thing were if im emo or goth that = i MUST cut myself, socioty says so. i must hate myself if i were black?

i hate people who do stuff just to fit in i am me and me alone i hate people who copy me but do get called a copyer coz i collect wepons i love fantasy wepons but that is just one part of me i am morbid coz that is just me and i am pissed coz i didnt get paid for the last 2 frigin weeks that is £500 i am out of pocket

nah, people are overly-simplistic. rather than make a distinction between people who wear black, and people who are goths, we just glob them into the same category...why? because we're lazy and don't like to think.

In response to the first post...well, it's early, and I don't feel like mincing words. Bandwagoners just need go away.

"Must conform!"

You're right Jeremy! 😱 It is because we're lazy.

The heart has its reasons of which reason knows nothing.

I absolutely love that quote, Irene....it's so true 😄

Re: Re: Trendwhores Unite!

The only medium I ever show people is poetry and even then it's just stuff I freestyle, if you will. Everything you see in the poetry corner is made up as I'm replying. I'd never expose any more unless I feel I know you and trust you enough.

People crave acceptance, it's dumb.

So it's ok for half of the world's populace to fangirl and fanboy out over Harry Potter...but disliking it must be kept to ourselves? Bit silly isn't it? If someone's gonna rant to me about "OMG SHE'S SUCH AN AWESOME AUTHOR!" then I'll reply back with every reason why she is nothing special. Deal with it.

I think TH means the people who go out of their way to not like it BECAUSE it's popular. Just like all the Green Day fans who stopped liking them after American Idiot because they became super popular.

"If you don't like Harry Potter, then keep it to yourself. Making the point that Harry Potter is trendy is pointless to me."

Doesn't seem like it to be honest.

Moreover, I don't think it's fair to say people shouldn't write poetry because they're not cut out for it. You do get better as you get older and if you keep writing. Also, music isn't necessarily for everyone but that doesn't stop My Chemical Romance or Coldplay putting out albums. They have the "ability" to make "music" and they are putting their right to do so, to use. Bad has to exist or good will never be appreciated.

"I also hate when people are like, "I don't like it, it's too mainstream.""

😛

And the point of this is not things like people writing poetry because they genuinely like to and want to get better, but people that do the whole dark depressed poetry thing because it's trendy. Which I agree with...you shouldn't do or like something just because it's 'cool'. Do it or like it because you truly do.

Personally I don't care if people don't like or do like the stuff I do and like.

Mainstream..mainstream..hmm..what would be good example of mainstream...*ponders*

Yeah, but when does that mean they have to keep it to themselves? Bit presumptuous.

I realise that whilst I'm fiercely protective of art, today's great artists in any medium, won't be around forever. Nor were they always here. Art has to come from somewhere and it's only gonna happen if people keep taking it seriously, which people always will. Somehow.

Marvel comics. They've easily tripled their fanbase with all the movies. I don't stop liking them as a result.

The problem with Harry Potter is that a lot of people genuinely believe she's (JK Rowling) this amazing author just because she's acclaimed by the mainstream. She's not anything special. I have no problem AT ALL with people liking the books and movies, but I do personally think that they should be a little more in the know before making such a claim as "she's a great author."

Well, I don't agree with the 'keeping it to yourself' thing either 😛

Here is what I think is mainstream:

Music: 50cent and Eminem
Movies: All the new Star Wars films
Gadgets: iPod
Video Games: Xbox and PS2

Whatcha think?

I don't think she's anything special as an author, I just like the books because they're fun and easy reads.

I'd say that all sounds right...SW especially, because there's all the teenage fangirls who like it simply because they think Hayden's hot and have never even seen the OT.

Sacrilege, so far as I'm concerned 😛

Well those are mainstream too, but so are Marvel Comics...especially now.

I don't care about mainstream or underground with my medium of choice, that being music. Purely because so many great bands exist in either. I also believe there should be no compromise in art. If someone doesn't like what you're doing, that's up to them, but don't change for them. It defeats the purpose of art and expression. I love The Cure, Zeppelin and then newer bands like System of a Down and The Darkness. Both of which are relatively well known (especially the latter). As long as it's honest and good (or better), then I have no problem with it. I even dislike honest BAD music less than I hate the dishonest shit.

To add to what you said though WD, people long to be able to discuss. So if a worldwide discussion point is the PS2, they'll be into it. My friend thinks he knows a lot about games just because he obsesses over them. I witnessed someone asking him a games question and I could tell he felt justified. It's weird.

But a point rises here Lana....These are things that I find them to be mainstream. However, fans or people who love these things might have a difference in opinion and even disagree. I think is about fanbases more than just popularity. The larger the fanbase the larger the thing will get.

If I've been genuinely into a band for ages, I'm not gonna be turned away from them just because Billy McLateArrival decides he wants to make them his new favourite band.

The only way I'll ditch a band in that way is if they alter their morals and beliefs to appeal to more and more fans. Which is compromise, and it's bullcrap.

Yeah, but my point stands at this...if you're going to call yourself a SW fan, you should have at least seen all the movies, not just the PT. I don't care how popular something is, but if you're going to make yourself out to be a big fan of something you shouldn't be largely ignorant of it.

Same here.
