I know some genres are stupidly based off of miniscule differences, but the ones in the poll are the basics. Power Metal sounds absolutely nothing like Black Metal. Even these genres have sub-genres, but sometimes they get out of hand (Math Metal? WTF?)
I just wanna know what genres you guys prefer and why. Yeesh. If you just like metal in general, at least try to think which style suits you best, or something like that.

Well, you can't exactly treat death metal and nu metal as just 'metal', they're worlds apart. In fact most subgenres of this subgenre are relevant, it's when you start getting into the sub-subgenres like...I dunno, ''viking metal'' or whatever you call it, then it starts getting silly.Ask me this question two or three years ago, I woulda said all of the above, but thrash and death in particular. Nowadays, the little metal I listen to is limited to specific bands who kick the living, genre-transcending crap out of all the others. Opeth, Sepultura, Meshuggah and Dark Tranquility, take a bow.
I'm a music fan, therefore the genre doesn't matter to me enough to get into subs.
as a matter of curiosity...if you care about genres so little then why are you at the centre of every debate about genres in the music forum?
why not just let the idiots have their bunghole rape metal or whatever pointless tags they decide to concoct from week to week?
