Hmm, fact is, this franchise doesn't necessarily follow a continuity, lol. Remember different actors/actresses for Pyro and Shadowcat? 😛
Seriously though, I think the transformation scene will already be a "given". The filmmakers will let the average audience/fanboys/fangirls who spotted "Hank McCoy" understand that he somehow transformed sometime between X2 and X3. Have you read the X2 novelization? Hank has transformed into the Beast when Professor X's Cerebro attacked all the mutants. So yes, the transformation will most like be a flashback scene.
Either that, or I don't think we'll get the scene at all. The movie will introduce us to Hank in his already blue form and his role will be significant due to the fact that he's supposed to be the Secretary of Mutant Affairs and has got lots of connection in the government. That, and the fact that he transformed sometime between X2 and X3 will lend a reason why he came back to Professor X after many years at the first place, aside from attending Jean's memorial (assuming that the scene we're talking about is really Jean's memorial). The movie will focus on that angle, I think. Not on how and why he transformed. I mean, he's supposed to be a mutant already anyway, lol...transformation or no.
I'm not necessarily smashing the idea away though. I mean, it would be really cool and all.
Although, one other reason why I think the filmmakers won't go with the transformation scene is that it will look too reminiscent of The Hulk's, if you know what I mean. Fantastic Four's The Thing's transformation was certainly approached differently, for instance.
So, transformation possibilities: Flashback scene or none at all. 🙂
