Leave Ending:

Spoiler:
The "good" ending; James and Laura leave silent hill.

Maria Ending:

Spoiler:
What I described above.

Water Ending:

Spoiler:
James commits suicide to try to be with Mary

Rebirth Ending:

Spoiler:
James stays in Silent Hill, hoping to use the magic of the town to bring Mary back to life

There are also two joke endings, one of which is indescribable, and the other of which involves

Spoiler:
UFOs

Maybe it's a little dark of me, but I always prefer the tragic endings. They just work so much better in the context of the game. Have you ever played SH1? When

Spoiler:
You've been forced to shoot your police-woman friend, and you're daughter's dead, you didn't manage to sabvbe her, and you're kneeling on the floor screaming, and the building is collapsing around you, and then it's suggested that the whole game was just a dying hallucination, and you was killed in the opening car crash
? That was so completely perfect, I don't think it's been matched in any of the later games. The Silent Hill folk did themselves a diservice when they made a direct sequal to that game and chose the "good" ending as being canonical.

yeah the so-called happy endings really put a damper on the mood.. but perhaps some of the gaming community appreciates the light at the end of the tunnel.

lol i love these dark endings that happen SH would be weird with a happy ending ya know i mean you have been through hell and you find your daughter and go off skipping happily away now that would be gay

I need to get SH4.

I need to get SH4.

Actually, you really don't. Just a piece of friendly advise. You might not know this, but SH4 wasn't originally a SH game; it was a horror game not affiliated with any series (much like Siren or Obscure) until someone decided, probably correctly, that it wouldn't sell on its own merits, and it got turned into a Silent Hill game. And man oh man, it shows. Instead of a few well-developed characters, you get treated to a series of characters who get to speak maybe five lines each before being killed off (and even that isn't handled well). The inventory system is screwed up beyond belief. And the entire second half of the game is a gigantic goddamn escort mission through territory that you've already been through.. Seriously it's like playing through one short game twice, except that the second time through you have to cope with Ms. Worthless charging at demonic hordes and flailing at them with her purse. Oh, and did I mention that you spend the game being chased by invinsible ghosts? Honestly, that game was a train wreck, albeit a train wreck with a cool opening scene.

thats ashame are the games really worth buying im thinking about getting them i think prices have dropped at least to 30

Depends what you're looking for. The first thing you should realize is that compared to, say, Resident Evil 4 or even the Fatal Frame series, the game play isn't very good. It's the curse of the survival horror genre: Resident Evil (except for 4), Along in the Dark, Dino Crisis, Clock Tower, Silent Hill, and other games of that description just can't seem to rise beyond mediocre, game-play wise. So if you can't get past that, you might want to give the series a miss. if you can, and you like horror, you need to get SH1 (for the PS1) and SH2 (for the PS2 and I think some other systems). Silent Hill 1 for the horror--every area in that game is practically perfect, and it's got a few of the most disturbing plot twists I've ever seen--and Silent Hill 2 for the story, which is, in my opinion, one of the best you'll ever see in a consol game. SH3? Well, if you like the first two, sure, but be warned that it's a direct sequal to the first, and it's also inferior to the first two (but nowhere near as bad as four), and unless you put it on easy, it's ludacrously difficult, so don't start there. SH4? Well, you read my review of that.

(If you live in America, you can get the original Silent Hill used for about $10.00 + shipping, so I'd say if you're even a little interested after reading my blurb, you might as well).

yeah like i said i played a little bit of the second and liked it. So i may get them cept for four

The air-raid siren is so creepy when its in horror movies/games o_o
its interesting how its original meaning has a connection to its useage in these other mediums

what sound effects in SH series creeped you guys out? fear

Not a "sound effect" exactly, but the music in those games was perfect; I hear the music in the movie will be by the same person.

The radio crackle whenever enemies were near.

Genius.

o_o indeed.. I also thought those yipping black baby things that would disappear into the walls were freaky too.. and the moaning children o_o!

Well currently i'm playing Silent Hill 4 and it's ace, very spooky, being stuck in your own apartment with the risk of nasty floating ghosts appearing through your wall,in my opinion better than any of the resident evil games. Good storyline.. whats this gossip about a silent hill movie??

There's going to be one, based on the first game. Hopefully, a great deal better than most video game adaptions. Directed by Christophe Gans, who I've never seen anything by, but at least he's not Uwe.

well it looks like it has pyramid head in it as well so it may have other factors

silent hill is CRAP its not scarey and is really badly made the film will be worse.

Love the games (especially #2), i have high hopes for the movie...

I would have to agree... even though its gameplay is simple.. the horror elements are very good... however the person disliking it probably expects freddy vs jason-style slash fests... silent hills always been about the supernatural.. all while delving into how long one can hold their sanity

april 21st seems so far away 🙁

i don't like Freddy vs Jason, and silent is one of those that you buy thinking its gonna be good but then you play it and not what you expect.
