New sith wars- don't understand

I have two questions.

First, were the new sith wars a millenia of fighting, or were they sporadic, or what? Also, to what extent was this fighting- was it like Yuuhzan vong everybody dying- fighting, or was it relatively small?

Second, where did lord Kaan get the power to create the thought bomb? I figure that it is too powerful for someone to just randomly do, and if he could in fact create a thought bomb so easily, why didn't the sith use it more often?

Wookieepedia is fairly accurate, though some characters are embellished or exaggerated when it comes to subjective claims.

Nor does it summarize Jedi vs. Sith very well...or their characters. I understood more than Wookieepedia did.
