First, I'm no fan of you.

Clearly, you have no other points to make as you said 'The only people who don't call them pop are the fans who are too ashamed to say they like a pop band.' So I might add that I have already pointed out that...

I would never deny liking a pop band

I tend to disagree. Owning their album, it doesn't sound much like anything else I've heard. They're pop, not that really means anything to me, but they've got their own sound for the most part. There's a few elements tossed in there.

Nice way to back me up 😐 😂

You would clearly deny liking a pop band, you're doing it now.

Just how I see it. I'm not ashamed to admit some of their stuff is catchy or just plain enjoyable to me.

I like them, if yout think they're pop that's fine, but I don't think they are so I'm not denying anything.

No problem.

I like P!ATD...every once and awhile. Their songs are catchy and they're fun at parties or whatever, but...when I just sit and listen to music, I'd rather listen to something else. Just like Fallout Boy, their songs get old for me, rather quick.

No, they are pop. You're denying this.

You have just changed the subject. You said 'The only people who don't call them pop are the fans who are too ashamed to say they like a pop band.' I'm denying that their pop, but I'm not denying that I would like a pop band.

If we're being anally specific, then yes.

The fact is they are pop and a pop band.

The fact is that you can't get over the fact that they are not a pop band.

They are.

One thing is for sure, they are not alternative rock, simply because they do not sound anything like alternative rock bands, nor are they, in any way, alternative.

What are they alternative to?

Exactly!

...it's pretty obvious

(can't believe I'm agreeing with AC again)

I can't say I know what alternative rock is anymore.

Pop is a synonym. They're popular, and the music is fairly light and basic. By industry standards, they're a "pop band".

Honestly, I remember when 'Hey Ya' by Outcast came out...and I was like, "Finally...alternative music again!". Really...what sounds like "Hey Ya"?

As far as alternative these days goes, I'd say Gnarls Barkley would be alternative (to what's out there), even though it's not what "most" people would call having an "alternative" sound.

The Banana Splits theme song.

And yes, GB is the biggest "alternative" group in years, having literally redefined the genre by definition.

"alternative rock" is a deceased genre. the same way one cannot call nirvana a punk band, though they contained every single essential ingredient, one cannot call anything alternative "alternative rock".

'Hey Ya' is a fantastic song; it's pretty much perfect.

I've got a whole bunch of shit under the 'Alternative Rock' genre in my iTunes just because I have no idea under which category I should class it without getting too idiosyncratic about each band.

Sufjan Stevens, Sigur Ros, Snow Patrol, Feeder, ALO, Ben Harper, Chris Cornell, G. Love, Weezer, Radiohead, The Kooks, The Zutons...what other genre would these dudes fit into?

(I like to keep my iTunes nice and tidy, by the way)

sufjan: earlier stuff is lo-fi indie, later stuff is chamber pop
sigur ros: post-rock
snow patrol: indie pop/rock, emo
ben harper: singer sonwriter, adult alternative (it's a real genre)
chris cornell: grunge
g love: experimental/fusion
weezer: emo, alternative rock (weezer generally fits)
radiohead: britpop/experimental
the kooks: indie rock
the zutons: indie rock

see, it's easy.

This is the problem with labelling.

If you're gonna do it, be right. You should never be allowed to refer to genres again.

Radiohead...britpop? Weezer emo?

Weezer are not an emotive hardcore punk band are they?
