Songs that are more relevant today than when they were written

k, so this might be a kind of cynical thread about the state of the planet, but can you guys think of any songs that ring truer today than when they were written?

One song i can think of right off the bat is Political Stu by the Circle Jerks:
can you grasp the situation?
or is it getting out of hand
riots, killing in the streets
over the color of a man
everybody looks the same
with their head stuck in the sand
every one looks the same
'til you see where they stand
reactionary politics
are the order of the day
it makes me really sick to
see the poor, treated this way
caviar and limousines
high finance and jelly beans
decorate the east wing california modern,
it's great to be the king
did you see the demonstrations in another land
over weapons annihillation care of uncle sam
the stock market does not reveal
the arms that they have sold
half the world can't get a meal
the war is getting cold
a bushel or a barrel
neither can be saved
you feed your beef with wasted wheat
to dominate your crave
can you hear the foreign voices
can you understand?
every great civilisation crumbles in the sand
organizations and their plans
i'm anti swa, anti klan
P.L.O., J.D.L., they can all burn in hell

Afrika Bambaataa feat. John Lydon

it can still be related to today

Speak of the destruction. (x3)

This is a world destruction, your life ain't nothing.
The human race is becoming a disgrace.
Countries are fighting with chemical warfare.
Not giving a damn about the people who live there.
Nostradamus predicts the coming of the Antichrist.
Hey, look out, the third world nations are on the rise.
The Democratic-Communist Relationship,
won't stand in the way of the Islamic force.
The CIA is looking for you.
The KGB is smarter than you think.
Brainwash mentalities to control the system.
Using TV and movies - religions of course.
Yes, the world is headed for destruction.
Is it a nuclear war?
What are you asking for?

This is a world destruction. Your life ain't nothing.
The human race is becoming a disgrace.
The rich get richer.
The poor are getting poorer.
Fascist, chauvinistic government fools.
People, Moslems, Christians and Hindus.
Are in a time zone still searching for the truth.
Who are you to think you're a superior race?
Facing forth your everlasting doom.
We are Time Zone. We've come to drop a bomb on you.
World destruction, kaboom, kaboom, kaboom!

This is the world destruction, your life ain't nothing.
The human race is becoming a disgrace.
Nationalities are fighting with each other.
Why is this? Because the system tells you.
Putting people in faceless categories.
Knowledge isn't what it used to be.
Military tactics to control a nation.
Who wants to be a president or king? Me!
Mother Nature is gonna work against you.
Nothing in your power that you can do.
Yes, the world is headed for destruction.
You and I know it, cause the Bible tells you.
If we don't start to look for a better life,
the whole world will be destroyed in a time zone!

California Uber Alles by The Dead Kennedys.

"California Uber Alles"

I am Governor Jerry Brown
My aura smiles
And never frowns
Soon I will be president

Carter power will soon go away
I will be Fuhrer one day
I will command all of you
Your kids will meditate in school

California Uber Alles
Uber Alles California

Zen fascists will control you
100% natural
You will jog for the master race
And always wear the happy face

Close your eyes, can't happen here
Big Bro' on white horse is near
The hippies won't come back you say
Mellow out or you will pay

California Uber Alles
Uber Alles California

Now it is 1984
Knock knock at your front door
It's the suede/denim secret police
They have come for your uncool neice

Come quitely to the camp
You'd look nice as a drawstring lamp
Don't you worry, it's only a shower
For your clothes here's a pretty flower

Die on organic poison gas
Serpent's egg's already hatched
You will crack, you little clown
When you mess with President Brown

California Uber Alles
Uber Alles California

I personally think It relates with our situation with Schwarzenegger.

Anarchy in the UK- Sex Pistols

Eve of destruction by Barry Maguire

The eastern world it is explodin',
Violence flarin', bullets loadin',
You're old enough to kill but not for votin',
You don't believe in war, what's that gun you're totin',
And even the Jordan river has bodies floatin',
But you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of destruction.

I Used to Love HER by Common Sense

As most hip hop heads know, it's about frustration at the commercialization of hip hop. The song was released in 1994, hip hop's supposed "golden age." Whether it was the golden age or not is debatable, but what's not debatable is that mainstream hip hop was in much better shape then than it is now.

Verse one:
I met this girl, when I was ten years old
And what I loved most she had so much soul
She was old school, when I was just a shorty
Never knew throughout my life she would be there for me
Ont he regular, not a church girl she was secular
Not about the money, no studs was mic checkin her
But I respected her, she hit me in the heart
A few new york niggaz, had did her in the park
But she was there for me, and I was there for her
Pull out a chair for her, turn on the air for her
And just cool out, cool out and listen to her
Sittin on a bone, wishin that I could do her
Eventually if it was meant to be, then it would be
Because we related, physically and mentally
And she was fun then, I’d be geeked when she’d come around
Slim was fresh yo, when she was underground
Original, pure untampered and down sister
Boy I tell ya, I miss her
Verse two:
Now periodically I would see
Ol girl at the clubs, and at the house parties
She didn’t have a body but she started gettin thick quick
Did a couple of videos and became afrocentric
Out goes the weave, in goes the braids beads medallions
She was on that tip about, stoppin the violence
About my people she was teachin me
By not preachin to me but speakin to me
In a method that was leisurely, so easily I approached
She dug my rap, that’s how we got close
But then she broke to the west coast, and that was cool
Cause around the same time, I went away to school
And I’m a man of expandin, so why should I stand in her way
She probably get her money in l.a.
And she did stud, she got big pub but what was foul
She said that the pro-black, was goin out of style
She said, afrocentricity, was of the past
So she got into r&b hip-house bass and jazz
Now black music is black music and it’s all good
I wasn’t salty, she was with the boys in the hood
Cause that was good for her, she was becomin well rounded
I thought it was dope how she was on that freestyle shit
Just havin fun, not worried about anyone
And you could tell, by how her titties hung
Verse three:
I might’ve failed to mention that the shit was creative
But once the man got you well he altered the native
Told her if she got an energetic gimmick
That she could make money, and she did it like a dummy
Now I see her in commercials, she’s universal
She used to only swing it with the inner-city circle
Now she be in the burbs lickin rock and dressin hip
And on some dumb shit, when she comes to the city
Talkin about poppin glocks servin rocks and hittin switches
Now she’s a gangsta rollin with gangsta bitches
Always smokin blunts and gettin drunk
Tellin me sad stories, now she only ****s with the funk
Stressin how hardcore and real she is
She was really the realest, before she got into showbiz
I did her, not just to say that I did it
But I’m committed, but so many niggaz hit it
That she’s just not the same lettin all these groupies do her
I see niggaz slammin her, and takin her to the sewer
But i’ma take her back hopin that the shit stop
Cause who I’m talkin bout y’all is hip-hop

im pretty sure it was more relevant back then or just equally relevant as of now.

Universal Soldier by Donovan, or Masters of War by Bob Dylan.

Alright, so they were both definitely relevant to their time, for sure.. but they're also relevant to now-a-days.

BIG COUNTRY - Where The Rose Is Sown

We’re at war All the papers say
We will win I read today
We are strong It wasn’t us
We are right Who started this
Leave your work I just left school
Leave your home I am no fool
Take up arms It left me strong
Sound alarms The school bell rings

Sons of men who stand like gods
We give life to feed the cause
And run to ground our heathen foe
Our name will never die
This time will be forever

Join up here I wave good-bye
We need you Oh my breast sighs
Have no fear Now I must try
God will be With braver men
Take the vow I know it’s right
Praise the flag The good fight
We’re at war I’m on my way
We will win Why do I pray

Sons of men who stand like gods
We give life to feed the cause
And run to ground our heathen foe
Our name will never die
This time will be forever

I wait here in this hole
Playing poker with my soul
I hold the rifle close to me
It lights the way to keep me free
If I die in a combat zone
Box me up and ship me home
If I die and still come home
Lay me where the rose is sown

Sons of men who stand like gods
We give life to feed the cause
And run to ground our heathen foe
Our name will never die
This time will be forever
