Yep, the blast is ure concussive force, but Cyke can use this in all sorts of ways.
Friction from the blasts is often what makes it look like people are smoking (and hence hot). I guess if you put a massive heavy piston on top of a fire, it would cut out the oxygen and hence the flames?
On a side note, Cyke has used friction to benefit his blasts in the past. Two issues of note (spread decades apart) are with Iceman - "fire and ice combo", where Cyke's blasts cause steam upon hitting Bobby's ice. Both times they have caused reduced visibility, allowing the team to escape. The issues were the X-Men Civil War mini, and also waaaaay back in the early UXM issues (within the first 60 issues). If anyone wants the reference number, i'll look it up and get back to you guys.

As a side note, what are people's best ever Cyclops moments? We've got lots of feats up, and people have been chatting all about them. But can you name a stand out one event that defines this character?
Still to this day is X-Factor....umm...60-something, where the team take on Apocalypse. Seeing Scott's internal monologue, his feelings for Jean/Nathan - and then unleashing it all on Apoccy....brilliant.
That's not to say there aren't otehr Cyclops moments - far from it - but this one is still my personal gem 🙂
Cyclops shows off his psychic defenses. Cyclops was able to repress the void.. and seal it in a type of psychic prison...something even emma frost couldn't do when it was within her.

Xavier is able to study the patterns of Magnetic Force and project those patterns into Scotts head. With this information Cyclops is then able to break open the forcefield.

During the X-men/Dark Avengers corssover, Dark Beast captured Hank and used him to power the Omega Machine, basically painfully draining his powers each day to power Omega.
Beast was saying that Scott only tried to rescue him when it was convenient for him, not before or because they'd been friends since they were teenagers etc, and this fact seemed to hurt Beast quite a lot.
