I believe it would be the same reason that many people like certain people in the news. They like them for whatever reason even though it's a different opinion than yours, and there's nothing wrong with it.

So, him shooting a man is news worthy. I'm not saying that Bush sent this guy on a hunting trip with Cheney so the VP could rub him out.
