I don't think it's a knock on Kelly so much (though it's a little one), but more a statement of B-Hop's brilliance. He fought an amazing bout. And Pavlik is still middleweight champ, and a legit one because he earned it over nearly every major contender in the weight class. But he's just not among the elite middleweight champs of years past, or among the elite in boxing. Solid but not great.

Having seen a ton of his matches, he also fights worse at higher weights. He was slower than normal. Not that it's an excuse, because it was a resounding loss, but when he said "that wasn't me out there tonight" he wasn't lying.

wasn't so much difference in style as Hopkins doing his homework...he realised that if he moved to to Pavlik's left the whole fight then he'd have to punch across his own body with his big right...reducing its effectiveness and making it essentially redundant...any other boxer in that division who wants to fight Pavlik should study that fight....and if Pavlik wants to stay up there with the best then he'll have to mix things up more

had hopkins not picked up on the weakness it may well have been a different outcome

tomorrow night Calzaghe rips RJj a new one and cements his place in the boxing hall of fame...It'll go the distance but it'll be unanimous points for Joe..

and then the Super-middle and light heavy divisions will have to look for a new undisputed king

I'm still sore over the Pavlik fight.

Go Roy, though. Gotta root for the home team, not the foreign fighter.

Taking Roy

Im going with Roy! Calzaghe aint retiring without a loss in his record!

Not a big fan of Joe, but his thrashing of Roy...got my respect

He should retire undefeated. I don't see a rematch with Bernard and I doubt if he'll fight any of the younger fighters

Joe won after being floored in the 1st round again, not really into these oldie "has been" fights though. And Jones is definitely past his best.

We don't know how much Jones has fallen, so it's a hard fight to gauge. But Joe got my respect for the Hopkins fight, but it wasn't until Hopkins then turned around and reamed Pavlik.

Why have you?

You don't have to support someone cos they were born on the same land.

yeah he should probably retire...there's nobody left to prove himself against...Pavlik probably wouldn't do the job because Joe would be too fast for his big right...Taylor isn't worth fighting anymore...the likes of Dawson and Johnson aren't big draws and so wouldn't happen because they wouldn't get the money in.

the work's done...i'd say Eubank, Kessler, Lacy, Hopkins and Jones jr are scalps enough to earn respect

46-0...cant argue with a record like that

you can if a fighter has fought nobodies and hasbeens.

just cause someone's old doesn't mean they're a has-been...i think Hopkins more than proved that point against Pavlik....and Joe against Kessler (28)

not to mention that Calzaghe called for a fight against Jones 8 years ago when Jones was in his prime and he acted like he didn't even know who Joe was...that's called ducking a fight...he got beat now and he would've got beat then too...not to mention that Joe is hardly in his prime either

Eubank was in his prime...Joe effectively ended his career and took the title when he was 25 years old...Lacy was 29 when he fought Joe...he was touted as being the next great champion...Joe wiped the floor with him and taught him a boxing lesson that shook him so much he barely scraped by 2 journeymen in Tsypko and Manfredo (someone else Joe wiped the floor with)

you can only trot out the same excuses so often for not giving Joe the respect he deserves...he's beaten everyone put in front of him...plain and simple

It's highly ironic though, that Jones is considered to have been one of the greatest boxers ever because of winning titles in 4 weight divisions...nobody ever questions the fact that whenever he went up against anyone even remotely half decent that he got his ass pounded like a ***** (Tarver twice and Johnson)...he even got beat by Montell Griffin

Lennox Lewis is being urged out of retirement by his former trainer...is this the state the heavyweight division is in?...whereby a 43 year old who's been retired for the best part of 6 years has to come back?...

so uhhh...noone gonna mention Hatton's raping of Malignaggi?

Hatton looked good

Hatton vs Oscar is being discussed

yeah i think his time under floyd mayweather snr has made him leaner and faster...perhaps at the cost of some strength...but it seems to have worked

Oh forgot about that fight, any good. I heard Mayweather SNR is training him now, any change in technique?

ill look for the fight on youtube.

Ah found it, wow Hatton looks a different boxer imo, very impressive.
Especially the jab, don´t understand why they threw the towel in though.

Lewis shouldn´t come back and make a fool of himself, and let Klitschko KO him for some money.

yeah he's jabbing more and moving in and out faster...seems to have sacrificed a bit of power for speed though as i think if he'd hit Malignaggi with some of the ones he hit Castillo with then Malignaggi would've went down

i believe he's also calmed down with the huge weight fluctuations that he's famed for (still plays on it with the "Fatman" jokes though"

problem with Hatton is that he can have a great fight and then a crap fight

still...he's supposed to be fighting the winner or Oscar and Manny next...which is this weekend isn't it?...soon anyway

Ever since Oscar "won" a ridiculous decision against that Felix Sturm, by being active in the last 10 seconds of each round, Ive lost respect for him and some fights.

Nevertheless Ill try and watch that one.

* it's Hatton versus the winner of Golden Boy-Pacman match... 🙂
