the word ''cool'' its been overated i just wanna know when did the word cool started?

cause when i was back in highschool i had a an old fart teacher who said that the word cool originated at the time during 1950's and it survived the test of time until today the word ''cool'' survive and still being used.

but then again i dont believe what that old man was saying.
