I've tried Render Tuts before, they are usually poorly written with bad grammar and are hard to understand. Rendering is something you have to learn for yourself and I don't have the skills or the patience to do it.

Ken, Rendering is cake. just requires tons of pacience.
Just have to cut out an image,
pen tool is what some people use, but I am more of a fan of traceing it with the lasso tool and deleting everything I don't want.

Check the Premium Tuts on GR, there's a tutorial by Kazuya that is very detailed and very good.

Quite frankly I'm surprised I can render at all as I have no patience and very poor mouse control....

I use extracting.

I've tried 4 or 5 different methods and the pen tool is the best, once I got the hang of it. You have much more control over stuff with it.

I have and use a tablet. And it's not half as easy to use as many people think it is.

Pen tool and polygonal lasso are the best ways to go with rendering.

I was never able to use a lasso....my hand would always jerk away at some point. But gimp has a nice path tool that makes it easy. Now if I could just figure out how to actually make it transparent (and yes, I save as png...still doesn't work) I'd be golden.

I'll have mine in by tomorrow, and we have a full week for the Tourny one so that's a piece of cake.

I don't like it very much, but it works. This is why I hate having to use multiple images, it's very hard to get them to mesh together properly.
