How do you know when a cat is constipated?

Naturally, they don't defecate for a day or so.

My cat is an outside cat, I dont make it a habit to follow her around monitoring her pooping cycle.

Then if you want to know if your cat's constipated you take it to a vet, which then takes a feces sample and feels it's tummy.

Or you notice that it throws up after it eats every time. As in my case.
