HAHAHA...here we go with the "we're going to win the world cup" crap that all the English telly pundits keep coming out with...as well as there little lap dog, the supposedly Scottish Alan Hansonstill...it makes the disappointment of getting pumped in a penalty shoot out all the more crushing when you actually believe you deserved to win
glad i'm Scottish and dont have such ridiculous expectations 😛

From what I've seen, England have a pretty good chance if they keep their heads. And according to all my friends, they have the best midfield in the world. If all goes well for em, they'll make it to the semis and get whupped by Brazil.
I reckon we could pull through our group. Italy are dead and gone now, all their best players have retired or faded away. If we play with speed we could take em. I've never seen Czech Republic play before, but I did some research and found they very rarely perform well on the big stage.
I think the Italians have plenty of good players (Del Piero is playing well, Pirlo and Gattusso are pretty consistent, and they have a very good striker in gilardino imo) , they just need to be in the mood to actually produce something... same goes for Holland and Portugal...
England are always over-hyped (Beckham is possibly the most overrated player in the world, Gerrard can blow hot and cold, thats assuming he's fit... Lampard is really the only top class midfielder they have imo, and the defence? shaky as hell...), though they should get out of their group at least...
I just hope the refereeing is better this time around, after the shambles in the last world cup...
The spaniards also should get their act together, and with this being held in europe i think the time is right for a european side to win it again...
best in the world? are you joking?
campbell is a clumsy oaf, ferdinand is asleep half of the time, neville while being experienced is prone to mistakes, and ashley cole? please... if not for his pace he'd be ripped to shreds in every match...
carragher is solid, and i like john terry when hes not cheating... but best in the world? come on...
the biggest hurdle for england will be playing germany in the 1/8. Both teams are yo yo teams and have the possibility of comming second in thier group. England hasn´t beaten swededn in 32 years and dot score many goals. I recon England will become second and then play against the Germans who will become top, that will be a game.

on paper Italy have the best defence in the world, supported by the best defensive midfielder in the world (Gattuso).
England do have one of the best midfields in the world though... Lampard, Gerrard, Beckham and Cole... with the option to use Wright-Phillips, King, Carrick... definately one of the best, but on the other hand you again have to look to Italy haha - on paper also the best midfield in my opinion.
Gattuso, Totti, Pirlo, Camoranesi, Fiore

well campbell is out of the picture. ferdinand is top quality at his best. i dont like neville, carragher and terry are class and so is cole who has improved vastly in his defence capabiltys.
only italys defence is as strong. but only nesta is world class for me. the rest are over half decent.

I've never understood that phrase, 'on paper'. If they can't do it on the pitch, there's no reason to rate them on paper. The Italians are consistently a massive let down each and every tournament, as are Spain. Both massively overrated.

well theyre all fantastic in their respective leagues, but fail to reproduce it on the international stage.
as for the Italy defence not being world class, Cannavaro, Nesta, Materazzi Zambrotta? all amazing defenders

Some of the Italians have to be good in their respective league[s] because they more or less all play in the same one. Some of them have to be the better ones.

How many more years can people go on citing the same players as world class for Italy though? I've been hearing people name Nesta for years, Cannavaro also.
It's not like Brazil where every year there's a genuinely phenomenal new prospect. They're naming the same players every year. When those players go, Italy will be worse than ever.
