Would this have helped?

I was watching Jedi today and thought about this...

When Luke was talking to Vader in the overpass that goes to the ATAT, if Luke had somehow mentioned Padme, do you think Vader would have still turned him over to the Emperor?

Like if he said something like, "There is still good in you, I feel it as my mother Padme did."

Maybe not those exact words but you know what I mean. I usually hate "what if" threads, but I think this may be conversation worthy.
Let me know what you think.

possible, but how would he know how his mother had felt?

i woulda just had him say "tell me about my mother" Possibly could've gotten Vader all choked up.

Another thing I often wonder is, if Vader had not died trying to kill Palpatine, and Luke brought him home, how would everyone else have felt?

Vader: "oh, Han...sorry about that carbonite thing, but i'm out of the Dark Side now. And Leia!! My daughter...sorry about Alderran"

Which is why a lot of people point out the ridiculousness and corniness of Anakin, Yoda, and Obiwan standing around with smiles at the end of ROTJ.

um...yeah.... if I was Yoda I would beat the **** out of Vader for slicing my 2 lovers Obi-Wan and Mace up. That was pretty corny...

That is because a lot of people don't realise that Anakin and Darth Vader are two different persons. Obi-Wan didn't realise it in the beginning but Yoda said so "the boy you trained, gone he is, consumed by Darth Vader" You're suppose to take that figurly but also litteraly.

And that is why if you really create a "what if darth vader returned with Luke alive" story...it would be exactly the same as what you said. Leia would never forgive Vader for what he did, only Luke understood him and had a connection with him.

As of what if Luke mentionned Padmé...I don't think that would change much. Vader was blocking him emotions as hard as possible. As he said it was too late for him.

I believe that to be incorrect. I know its EU, but being approved by the big flannel one, it'll serve for this purpose...Leia named one of her kids Anakin right? Well she must have forgave him for all that shit. I think they'd be too afraid really to try anything. But once they talked Im sure they'd be alright. Shit, if not for Vader, theyd all be dead, so I'd say they owe him a debt of gratitude.

Anyway, well of course the story would be different if he brought up Padme, so assume he knew just alittle bit about Padme...had he dropped the P-bomb, do you think that could have gotten Vader to leave with him, is ultimatly asking. I mean shit doesnt make sense anyway...luke was born first, and yet Leia remembers her "images" and "feelings"? C'mon man.

That only proves that Leia had a deeper connection with her mother and Luke with his father...and you said it yourself...I have that comic book, Dark Empire II, where she names her third child Anakin...that would never have happened! It would be Luke who would have called his son Anakin...but he called him Ben. You said it yourself, it's EU...mentionning Padmé would not have make much difference...In episode III he was still fragile...but in ep IV he was truly a changed man with no love anymore in his heart...Luke managed to find the light in him later, but mentionning Padmé could even make it worse, cause he assumes he killed her. Luke tried to reach Anakin his father by mentionning his name...You see how he reacted to that...not a success at all...that's why I think mentionning Padmé wouldn't make much difference too.

But Luke had no memory of his mother. At that point he only knew what Leia had told him...

no affect?! He had him sitting there talking calmly and civil...until the stormtroopers came back in. THEN he sat there after he was taken away, and was thinking about shit, like he had a big moral dilema. I think it helped him calling him Anakin and i think it could have helped bringing up Padme.

Like Lucas said, there's alway something saying in him that he is doing something wrong, but you cant say that it was because he called him Anakin, it was more that Luke told that he still felt good in him that did the job...if he had a moral dilemma it was about that, not just because he was called anakin...and I didn't say mentionning Padmé would have no effect...I said it wouldn't have made much difference

Um, for the record, Luke had received a 12 second, utterly brief bio. of his mother's last minute of life. How is he to even know what the hell she was like, if she would say anything like that? He had NO idea.

Plus... (ahem) you make it seem as if he knew Padme's name.

Who's Padme? 😑

Heh...

Well, at that point, Luke knew nothing. I suppose he's suggesting 'If he did know something...'

Though, Luke gets to watch a bunch of neat shots from Episode III via R2-D2 in EU...

just a "what if" thread...so in this case "What if Luke knew more of Padmé and mentionned it to Vader...would that have helped"

In that bizarre case... I think Vader may try to prey on Luke's possible feelings towards his mother, rather than vice versa.
