Subversive Cinema is a dvd production company that's attracting much attention from their packed dvds. They've put out very diverse genre movies- great sets of everything from Eraserhead to The Freakmaker to Battlefield Baseball.

They've announced a few movies that are being released in upcoming months- and it looks like they're continuing their trend.

First up is Metal Skin, from Geoffrey Wright, the director of Romper Stomper:

Petrol-head Psycho Joe (Aden Young) babysits his brain-damaged "Pop", living in squalor in the Melbourne suburbs. Joe has one love: Fast cars! Securing employment at the local Westbarn Wholesalers, Joe meets his idol and best mate, Dazey (Ben Mendelsohn, The New World). Soon after, Joe falls in love with Savina (Tara Morice, Strictly Ballroom, Moulin Rouge), his goth co-worker who spends her spare time practicing black magic. Unfortunately, Savina has secretly fallen for Dazey, and will do anything to get him, including using Joe’s feelings for her.

In true Shakespearian fashion, the couples race down the road to tragedy, building up to a climatic racing showdown so masterfully crafted that it rivals the most famous driving scenes in cinema. With an Australian punk soundtrack, rapid editing style, and a hot collection of the best young actors in Australia!

I've heard really good things about Romper Stomper- so this one's got my interest. The dvd also contains a cd soundtrack in a limited number of copies. Metal Skin is being released on April 7th.

After that we've got Funny Man-

FUNNY MAN is a riotous rollercoaster of gore, bad taste, profanity and comedy that has gained legendary cult status with UK horror fans. Record producer Max Taylor (Benny Young, Chariots Of Fire, Out Of Africa) is ecstatic when he wins Callum Chance’s (Christopher Lee - in his first horror role in 25 years!) ancestral mansion in a poker game. Soon after moving in, Max’s wife (Ingrid Lacey, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II - The Sith Lords, In Love And War) and two kids are brutally dispatched by a resident demonic jester (Tim James), who possesses an imaginative repertoire of homicidal techniques and an irreverent sense of humor. Meanwhile, Max’s brother is enroute to the mansion with a bizarre bunch of hitchhikers who will be lucky to survive their final destination.

Funny Man's coming out on May 30th. Any chance to check out more Christopher Lee horror should be taken, in my opinion.

Both dvds are absolutely packed with extras- with everything from commentaries to documentaries to short films filling the dvds to the limit.

Besides these two there's also been a big announcement of a movie coming out later this year- DUST DEVIL, which is finally being released on dvd under the name DUST DEVIL: THE FINAL CUT and is scheduled to hit on September 26. No other details are clear yet, but we'll keep you in the loop.
