What they 'might' lack in skill compared to Hyrule ones [how trained are they?] they make up in higher numbers, a situation like that you'd need a high amount of skill to not to get killed.

Edit: Yeah Rain. Or you could do what Sora does and grab the giant living laser gun and spin it around a bit. Or spend half of your time swooping in for easy kills. It's not like they'll dodge them or anything.

How does vs DLink show sword skills? At best it shows that he can attack faster then normal, not that he has a vast skill with a blade.

Dark Link is faster, just as strong, has abilities Link does not, and can mimic his moves. Fighting skills is one of the few options you have to beat that opponent.

By the way, which possibility for that first Squall fight is canon? The one where Sora loses or the one where Sora wins, and then loses? Either way, there is no possibility that Squall was going all out.
