Greatest Anime Films

I did a search and even looked in the Directory and didn't see a thread like this, so if there is one, my bad. If there isn't, hopefully it can be made official.

Anywho, This is to list and discuss the greatest anime films of all time. I don't mean something like Yu-Gi-Oh or the damn Pokemon Movie...I'm talking Akira, Ghost in the Shell, Metropolis, Tokyo Godfathers, even Armitage. I would have included series' like Cowboy Bebop too, but there's an official thread for that and I don't know if it'd be allowed.

I've been looking for great anime recently, and have watched quite a few. My favorite at the moment being Akira and Ghost in the Shell, which are both admittedly slightly confusing even the second time around.

Any perspectives on what they mean would be great, and listing other great anime would be perfect.

Princess Monoke!! Spirited away!! The first two and sixth dbz movies. Naruto movie!

Sprited Away I can accept,, and I haven't seen Princess Monoke, but the DBZ movies are utter crap compared to anything I mentioned and Naruto is better than DBZ but still lacks the depth that I'm talking about.

Perfect Blue anyone?

Maybe this would have been better off in the movies forum.

I totally agree with you on "Princess Mononoke"! That is an awesome movie. I saw it last Saturday because Toonami (on Cartoon Network) had it on as part of their "Month of Miyazaki". This Saturday is "Castle in the Sky" and the Saturday after that will have "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind".

I have also heard that the Fullmetal Alchemist movie should be pretty interesting. It'd be best if you saw the whole series before watching the movie, though, or else you'll get lost within the first few minutes.

Princess Mononoke all the way! I totally agree with you guys!
If you haven't sen it here!

this is the japanses version with subs. The graphics are kind of bad
because it's uploaded by someone. But if you watch the original the color is way way way better!

This thread has so much potential.

Akira is a classic....It is and always will be.

Has anyone seen Jin-Roh? I hear that it's really good but haven't seen it.

Never seen the movie, but I have read the manga it's based off of (Kerberos Panzer Cops) and it's very good.

Tokyo Godfathers would have to be the best comedy movie ive seen. it really portrayed the poor/minority communitys really well. and it was soo funny

any more films? Metropolis was a great one.

hears my list

End of Evangellion
X
Spriggan

ooooh yes, X was a great film. Gotta love the gratuitous violence

I would say...
Vampire hunter D (both... 2nd is better though)
Ninja Scroll
Detective conan Movies...(possibly a few are worth checking out if you haven't seen the series...)

And as a rule... Anything by Studio Ghibli A few have been mentionned but there are alot more...

* Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984), Hayao Miyazaki (director and original manga)
* Castle in the Sky (1986), Hayao Miyazaki (director)
* Grave of the Fireflies (1988), Isao Takahata (director)
* My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Hayao Miyazaki (director)
* Kiki's Delivery Service (1989), Hayao Miyazaki (director)
* Porco Rosso (1992), Hayao Miyazaki (director)
* Princess Mononoke (1997), Hayao Miyazaki (director)
* Spirited Away (2001), Hayao Miyazaki (director)
* Howl's Moving Castle (film) (2004) Hayao Miyazaki (director)

Does Star Wars Clone Wars Volume 1 and Volume 2 count.

I really loved Akira and Ghost in the Shell. I just can't get enough of them.

Akira- Superb classic , the english voice acting is a little ....crappy.

Armatige the third - It's good clean visuals , the plot can be a little confusing and fast paced but aramtiges appearance appeases that for the fan-base.

Vampire Hunter d blood lust- Great , the visuals can get a little dark but aside from that it's like watching a piece of art , also i give credit to the VA's who did a wonderful job.

Blood the last vampire - Artistically satisfying , awesome visuals and nice VA's although (as most would agree) the character developments was nonexistent and the plot was a little confusing.
