LOL. He doesn't have to kill him to beat him. He just had to knock him out or otherwise immobilize/incapacitate him to beat him which Marvel was obviously doing his darndest to do and yet he couldn't. They were both clearly going all-out in that comic and evil Superman won.

Eclipso doesn't amps solar powered characters. In fact in the very same arc, Superman and Eclipso's powers weaken each other as they are vulnerable to each other.

Cap himself said that the fact he lost was because Superman fought much more savagely than he thought and no mention of him being stronger than usual was said in any comic.
