When I hear "fireside chats", I think of American President Franklin Delanor Roosevelt. As far as I know, he used to broadcast (over the radio) these "chats" in the White House near the fireplace. He would talk to the people as if he was sitting and talking right next to them, hence the "fireside chats." 😛
