No not nine-tailed demons. There are nine demons each with a different number of tails from 1 to 9. Gaara's demon is one tailed and Naruto's demon is nine-tailed but I believe they've got the same power.
according to data I have Kyubi can flatten mountains literally without effort (I don't think Shukaku has shown that kind of power)
other tailed beasts were easily captured by the Atakasuki

And it hasn't shown Kyuubi destroy anything but Konoha but it is said he can do all that stuff. Same with Shukaku.
Also the fourth sealed his spirit with a technique didn't beat him barefist or anything. He's not stronger he just had a awesome kill-himself technique. The third was weaker then Orochimaru and he almost did the same thing.
I think if you outsmart someone its the same as beating 'em.Yondaime outsmarted the fox by sealing him and Naruto outsmarted the demon in Gaara by waking him up. But its a matter of opinion I guess whether outsmarting your opponent makes you better. The Third was stronger than Orichimaru and he would've beat him if it weren't for that spear through his chest.
Oh they beat them..Just beated them without physically beating them. Just like Shikamaru usually does or mostly does. It's why Shikamaru is my favorite he's not brute strength he's actually smart and has to use his brain to win or at least stay toe to toe with people way more powerful then him like Temari and Tayuya.
