The wiki suggests he had those powers for a while but only to fight New Son and then had them removed again.

ok thats fine but dont count gambit out just yet because his feild of kenetic energy protects him from about 90 percent of damage done to him and he can super charge anything that he wills no touching the rings great and all but if ur talking about the same sinstro i am the orig he doeset charg it like normal but instade draws powers directly from hal jordons ring thats the only reason it works to protect him
