I refuse to jump on the GoT bandwagon and stick to my Vampire Diaries. 131
Pfff. "Tyrion Lannister" is all that I have to say as a pro-GoT-argument. That guy is epic win forced into the body of a dwarf. Here is his reaction to being charged with murder and told to either confess his crimes or be executed:
He pulls that kind of stunts across the show and if they keep sticking to the books as much as they did with the first season, that character alone will make it worth watching the entire series. Add the gritty atmosphere, nudity, violence, the other characters and political intrigues and you have a nigh perfect TV event.
Further advice: Read those books. Additional advice: Not before Martin has finished the series, though. While waiting for the next Harry Potter book might have been an unpleasant experience for you, it's nothing compared to waiting five years for "A Dance of Dragons" to be released. So you can start reading somewhere around the year 2020.

It ain't my sorcerous ways, but those of G.R.R. Martin. On a sidenote:

Bitchslapping the Crown Prince takes some serious nadgers.
Being his uncle probably helps doing something like that. Yet, I did still love that scene, just because Tyrion puts his nephew in his place. It's not his best action though. Those will hopefully follow in the second and third seasons.

That's what almost always happens with good shows these days. That's why I think, we won't see GoT being completed...
No way GoT gets canceled. The acclaim and reviews it's received are the highest of any show in memory.
Though your words are true for the most part. Your avatar and signature are a great example of that.
Someone link me to the DotOR gumf, I'd be happy to participate and investigate.
I enjoy Vampire Diaries and Game of Thrones both. VD fulfills my need for social drama mixed with a piece of the vampire hype that doesn't irk me. GoT gets my political intrigue slot and throws some medieval/fantasy warfare in it.
Plus, Tyrion Lannister, as shown above, is truly a marvelous character and easily one of my all-time favorites.
I need to watch more shows, I don't have a lot of time for television though. 30Rock is my current comedy fix, and I've caught up on Party Down. Doctor Who and Clone Wars are my only real sci-fi source right now, with Clone Wars coming on soon and Doctor Who off its brief summer hiatus. Battlestar Galactica I finished last semester.
