The Battle Bar, Our Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy

The blu ray release of the films or I'm sure you can probably download it online. It's a digital animatic that was supposed to model the duel between Yoda and Sidious. It's much better than what we actually got, with some stark differences.

What's the differences?

Mmmmmmm, Hermione/Bellatrix fics......

Oh great, so now GL is clearly ****ing with us.

Also, GoW 3 <<<< Deus Ex Human Revolution.

Anyone else notice that the security voice for Adam's apartment is clearly Eliza Cassan?

I don't know who that is, so she must not be important. 313

How could you play the game for ten minutes and NOT know who Eliza Cassan is?

Google'd her.

She never seemed all that relevant to the story and I'm bad with names anyway. I'm still in China, so if she's done something other than be ambient noise on those news ads, I've yet to see it.

The Senate Duel animatic was sweet, and had the designers continued, the final duel would have been a lot more epic.

What I loved:

Spoiler:

1.) The duel introduction: how the holocron of Anakin disappears to reveal Yoda emerging from the shadows and how Yoda blocks Sidious's Force Storm with the two Royal Guards (granted, that wasn't Jedi-like whatsoever, but infinitely bad@ss).

The animatic didn't feature the opening round of taunting that was displayed in the film version, but instead had Sidious and Yoda going for the kill right away. While this discussion set up nicely for the duel in Senate Chamber Hall, I would expect the two masters of the Light and Dark sides of the Force to approach the battle with nothing but an intent to kill; I didn't like how Sidious, a tactical genius and ruthless Sith Dark Lord, teased Yoda by firing a single bolt and then refused to press the advantage, instead allowing the Grand Master to juice up Force Valor and be ready to fight.

Furthermore, the lack of initial dialogue would have been a nice contrast to an Anakin vs. Obi-Wan duel that would have benefitted from more dialogue in order to produce more emotional depth.

In the animatic, Sidious does go for the killing strike with his Force Storm, and later Yoda dropkicks (yes, I kid you not, that would have been amazing to see on screen bwahaha) Sidious to put him in a similarly vulnerable spot. As a result, we see both masters of the Force being in positions of certain death, yet demonstrating the prowess to recover and continue battling.

2.) I loved how they 'zoom in' to the fight in the Senate Chamber Hall with those televising droids.

I thought when Sidious Force threw that droid at Yoda, and how you were able to see it rapidly approaching the Grand Master from the screen, was sweet (as well as when you see static on the screen because (it is implied) Yoda destroyed the droid), but I wonder how that would have looked in full fruition. Ergo, I'm a bit meh on the whole duel being televised across the Senate Chamber Hall (especially because nobody else is present).

3.) We also see how Sidious logically obtains the 'higher ground' in the duel, using the droid to carry him after Yoda Force Push-ed Palpatine. I never really understood why the movie suddenly cut away from Yoda v. Sidious duel and next sequence showed Yoda somehow hundreds of feet below the Sith Lord, even though the Grand Master is faster and more maneuverable.

4.) There are more Senate pods being flung at Yoda, which demonstrates greater testament to the powers of the Dark Lord of the Sith and the Jedi Grand Master.

5.) The 'Force exchange' is a lot more epic in the animatic. The tutaminis causes tendrils of the lightning to blast apart the screens and walls (the shot of Yoda's back as he is engulfed in lightning was sick!). Sidious almost immerses Yoda's entire body with lightning, and the Grand Master is on his back, barely holding onto his life. I don't know, I felt it was a reference to how the Emperor fried Luke with Force Lightning in ROTJ.

And I loved how Yoda, instead of narrowing his eyes in anger and determination, simply closes them as if in meditation and drives Sidious back. It's much more indicative of Yoda's personality, especially that of the OT. The clincher of the sequence was how Yoda is able to direct parts of the lightning on an oncoming droid and how that electrifies Sidious from behind, causing a two-fold ownage of the Dark Lord.

6.) In ROTS, we see how Sidious was at the center of the repulsorpod, symbolizing his dominance and control, and the overall dominant return of the Sith; and Yoda at the edge of the pod, symbolizing how the static nature of the Jedi Order led it to stand on the precipice of destruction. Even though the film duel had Yoda 'winning' throughout the contest, the fact that he falls while Sidious remains on the repulsorpod symbolizes the fall of the Jedi Order and the rise of the Sith. Ergo, what is shown is that no matter how powerful the Jedi were, even the strongest of them could not defeat the Sith that day.

Of course, whether this symbolism was intentional, or Yoda's fall was just an easy way to end the fight (wouldn't put it past Lucas), the overall point wasn't very clearly depicted in ROTS.

This animatic clearly demonstrates Yoda as the victor of the battle, and how it is Sidious who is thrown off the repulsorpod. Yet, I think the symbolism earlier could be argued as well. The animatic has the Dark Lord directing another repulsorpod to lift him away from the building, while Yoda sits still watching away until he is assaulted by Clone trooper fire and forced to fight through it before escaping.

7.) Overall, while there were elements of the film version that I would have incorporated, I think this animatic was better.

Most people don't realize she's the prototype for daedalus.

Can we see this animatic?

Obviously not. They're just going to talk about it smugly because its the only thing that can justify wasting money buying the blu-ray releases.

My version of the OT is still the VHS pack from the 80s and I don't actually own the PT.

With the black and white campy 80s artwork? Yep. Damn things are so old they look like shit and barely play.

I actually haven't watched any of the actual films in years, OT or PT. In fact, I haven't watched ROTS since I saw in the theatre.

Its on youtube....anyone not like my analysis 🙁 I was rather proud of it lol

You put it in spoiler tags.

😐

I haven't either. Don't really feel inclined to. The older get the more I realize that none of the films are really all that good... there's just a nostalgia factor.

Which is why I suppose I don't really give a damn about GL ****ing up his own creations as much as others.

Yeah, when I think about it, I don't really like any of the films. In fact, I had long forgotten about Star Wars until KoTOR came out.

As far as I'm concerned, the EU is the only part of star wars that exists.
