Ok, so apparently for the new clone wars comic Maul manages to capture Dooku.
"Darth Maul has captured Darth Sidious's new apprentice! Mother Talzin and Maul attempt to sway Count Dooku to their cause, revealing surprising facts about Maul's past. But an attack by an elite Jedi strike force throws everyone's plans into chaos!"
Everything about the CW continuity is tired.
Where the **** are they even taking Maul's character? He has no character arc whatsoever.
I feel like the entire CW series has been an example of why you need to be careful what you wish for. The Clone Wars always seemed like such a great opportunity for story-telling, with a wide variety of incidences with large casts happening all over the Galaxy.
But, nope. Sans a few isolated good quality stories, most of which are centered around the Clone's themselves, it's just the same old bullshit with the same handful of characters, coming into conflict with each other a thousand times and with there never being any conclusive change in the status quo.
If there's one thing to look forward to about the upcoming Rebels show, it's that the cast is going to be almost entirely new (and mostly not Jedi, another plus), with existing characters only making token guest appearances. That will definitely be a refreshing change.

To be fair, most of the EU works already in place did a finer job of fleshing out the area, including addressing plot holes and mere backdrop characters. Hell, the only jedi in the Medstar duology was padawan Barriss, and it's easily my favorite EU books along with Dark Rendezvous.

To be honest, the only Clone Wars era novel I thought was above average was Shatterpoint. Cestus Deception was average, Jedi Trial was lulz (though I actually quite liked the battle scenes in that one, I think it had the best military writing type stuff in it), and I don't get the hype behind Dark Rendezvous. Dooku came off as a hyper-snob and all the Jedi who weren't Yoda were either incompetent or just annoying (that was the book where the two Jedi Masters got pwned by a couple droids armed with shotguns, right?). Never got around to reading Labyrinth of Evil or the Medstar trilogy.
That reminds me though, I need to read Cloak of Deception again.
As far as Clone Wars media, I think the comics are what I appreciate the most. They were consistently pretty great.
I feel that way about the Old Republic era.
And no, that's not a jab. I just... genuinely feel completely flaccid when it comes to everything that happened before the PT.
Also feel that way about everything that happens after the Thrawn duology. As far as my head-canon is concerned, the Star Wars EU ends with Luke marrying Mara Jade, the Empire signing the peace treaty with the Republic and everyone living happily ever after.
I just don't like that theres only a few Sith in the PT. So we're always going to be watching the same characters fighting the same characters over and over. Or have the Jedi fight boring mid-bosses.
Plus its just so overexposed. I just don't care about any of that shit anymore.
Finally theres no tension. I know how it ends. I know where everyone ends up by RotS and after it. So I don't care about what happens in between. I don't care about Anakin vs Dooku fight no 4 because I know nothings going to ****ing happen.

Cloak of Deception is really good. I also enjoyed The Approaching Storm and the Medstar Duology. Jedi Trial is the weakest EU book I have read that wasn't by Karen Traviss, which is really saying something.
As for Dark Rendezvous, it has a lot of pathos and depth. I'm surprised you didn't enjoy it, but perhaps it didn't quite cover what you were expecting (gratuitous Anakin sex scenes, no doubt).
Give it a read (from her official website):
http://www.karentraviss.com/page10/files/Is_it_true_you_hate_Jedi_.html
She basically trashes this entire forum and any Star Wars debater.
She just really hates the idea of the clones being disposable people. Which is fair, but she takes it to an extreme and lets it seriously color her work.
Its especially eyerolling because she makes Boba Fett, who murders people for money, and the Mandalorians, who murder people for HONOR, her author pets.
Well she said I agree with Nazis...so...screw her.
"But once you're past the age of puberty and you start arguing passionately with me that the Jedi were right to accept a slave army of cloned human beings and use them in war, and cloned humans aren't proper humans like us, and it was too bad the clones died, and the Jedi had no choice - well, sweetheart, I want to run a mile from you. Not the Jedi, who - just to remind you - are a figment of various writers' imaginations, just like the clones. You. If I see that you really mean it, and you're making excuses in your own mind for the Jedi just following orders on that delicate point, then you scare the living crap out of me. For real."
She just burned the shit out of us all (mostly all of us) ^
