Why? Because they can do something you can't? Because they fulfill a certain market demand? Why athletes and not movie stars? Why not the entire cast of "Jersey Shore"? You have actors who can't act, but NBA athletes can play at least a modicum of basketball. Same with soccer/tennis/football players. So again, why?

I don't have athletes for the same reason I don't hate the cast of the Jersey Shore. If people are dumb enough to watch talentless hacks (most actors), it's not the Situation's fault he gets paid market value.
On the other hand, athletes aren't talentless hacks. If there's a legitimate reason to dislike them I get it. But if it's jealousy or envy, no.
