Nah. He said "once more the Sith shall rule the galaxy...." I don't like the retcon either, but not for timeline issues since canon supersedes Legends. Apparently now, the Sith not only ruled the galaxy but occupied Coruscant prior to their defeat.

But at what point was that even possible?

It's only possible if you disregard everything prior to the films, which is what nu!canon is doing. In Legends EU, it's not really possible for a unified Sith empire to have occupied the galaxy and ruled from Coruscant.

But if you read old Lucas interviews, in his mind, the Sith ruled the galaxy ages ago and were overthrown by the Jedi and wrote the dialogue of the films accordingly.

It's still a haphazard timeline, though.

I reiterate my previous point about how star wars is a joke. I used to think it was as good as LOTR. Now I don't think it's even close.

The LOTR are pretty hard to compete with imo, even though I prefer the story of Star Wars. LOTR has a pretty impeccable intersection of story and execution. {The Hobbit films are pretty lackluster, though.}

Anyway, I'm totally fine with them wiping out the extant EU since most of it sucked anyway. But only as long as what's replacing it is better.

1. It won't be better. It can only be worse.
2. I'm not ok with it since everything I've read the past 10 years is essentially meaningless.

It may not be better but not because it "can only be worse." Most of the old EU was pretty bad. They've got the talent to write consistently better stories but only if the Story Group actually supervises.

You're not alone in that boat. But it doesn't really change anything because the good shit you read is still good and the bad shit you read was still bad.

The fact that everything except the movies is pretty much non canon already tells me that star wars is shit.

Most of the stuff released since the Legends announcement is also canon.

Such as what?

Tarkin, A New Dawn, Lords of the Sith, Son of Dathomir, etc.

The plan is to release everything except what remained of the old comic lines and SWTOR under the new Story Group canon timeline.

What is lords of the sith? Once again, it appears that KOTOR, anything dealing with the Ancient sith, Revan, etc are all non canon.

SWTOR seems to be in the layer between Legends and Canon.

A novel about Vader and Sidious.

Yup. And with the lone exception of KOTOR, nothing you mentioned is a real loss to the continuity.

Kun comics?

All that is part of KOTOR I think. AKA the good parts of star wars.

TOTJ wasn't that bad, no. But it doesn't really give me pause like KOTOR.

No one gives a shit about anything from the KOTOR era other than KOTOR itself. Very good game, pretty good story. That's easily the only thing from that era that was any good. Everything else sucked.

What do you mean nobody? I think most people care more about the KOTOR era than the current one.

Eh, KotOR will always be remembered as the central point of the Old Republic EU.
SWTOR and other works tried to continue the legacy but failed to capture what once was.

You're crazy. KOTOR was a very successful EU project, but EU fans are vastly outnumbered by casual film fans. Episode 7 is a zillion years ahead of KOTOR with respect to interest.
