Thumbs up to the above 3 posts.
The hate is overrated. Critics have always hated Star Wars. The only difference with the PT was some fans of the OT joined the critics.
But honestly I don't feel the general audience had that hate on the whole, and mostly enjoyed them. Otherwise there wouldn't be crap loads of hype for Ep.7 now IMO.

Weird also seeing as all the 3 PT movies generally got mixed reviews and made bank, the hate just seems more vocal.
Originally posted by ZenwolfUsually the vocal part comes from the inner fanbase and despite success and positive reviews they almost skew the public perception just because they are really loud. Trekkers did the same thing with Into Darkness despite the profitability and positive critic reviews. In the end form your own opinion and don't just try to fit in. Be like Quan in a sense in the fact I don't fit into anyone's box.

And still sold well first on VHS (Phantom Menace only), then again on DVD, the again on Blu-Ray and now on Digital downloads.

Return of the Sith. Good/Great.
Phantom Menace. Good.
Attack of the Clones. Average/Good.
Yeah AOTC is my least favourite. But having said that I did feel it improved on the Phantom Menace in certain areas.
Whereas ROTS was a combination of the best of both those previous movies IMO
