The Battle Bar, Our Wretched Hive of Scum and Villainy

Brady and Manning may be the only greats left standing, but the quarterback who got knocked out in Green Bay last round is still the best ever. 🙂

Montana was the best ever.

Tom > Montana, tbh.

Not a chance. Eli has ownership papers on the man.

Good thing Tom's got the stats, rings, and MVP's to make up for it.

Rodgers is better than Tom, Peyton, and Montana, though.

Rules are changed so we can't just forget this new offensive benefited era.

He lost to a 10-6 squad with an 18-0 squad. He also cheated. Spy gate. Winning close games with the NFL torching evidence it was that bad. Vinatieri won three rings.

Rodgers is a better passer but he isn't the clutch god Montana was.

But is that really as much of a dealbreaker as it seems when we consider that Dan Marino (who played in the same era as Montana) was casually putting up 4k + yard seasons, with a career 61k yards?

Yep, he did indeed. And the whole "cheating" business is hard to quantify in terms of how much it helped them. It didn't help Brady put up historic numbers or put up the only unanimous MVP season in NFL history.

Rodgers is just...insane. Highest QBR (by far) at 104.1. Best TD/Int ratio (3.95) in NFL history. And that Hail Mary was utterly insane. If he wins at least 2 more rings and another MVP, he usurps them all IMO.

Marino was a stat padding chocker. 🙂

Here's to Cam shitting on the Patriots too, you mean. Though Payton and Brady need to go to the Super Bowl again like I need a knife across my throat.

I'm rooting for Panthers to win it all, tbh. Dat defense needs to stop giving up points late in games like that, though.

Marino also wasn't clutch when he had the team. In fact the niners crushed him when he had the time.

Various players, ex coaches, etc. have speculated but it had to be horrendous to actually destroy it to protect the reputation of the league.

Rodgers is great but he has to get more rings. I love Rodgers but Montana to me was the Jordan with the moments. Montana was the best and minus the Giants injuring him they probably would have been the only time to three peat in the Super Bowl era.

My point wasn't to say Marino was better than Montana, rather that those top-flight kind of stats were possible when Montana was playing-he simply didn't get them. And when for two of your Superbowls (and multiple other seasons) you have Jerry freaking Rice to throw to, that kind of matters.

It's really not enough for me to put Montana over Brady. ESPECIALLY if Brady gets his 5th. He's got the stats and the clutch.

Oh, I agree. For me, Rodgers is the Lebron to Manning/Brady's Kobe/Duncan. I think Rodgers is better than both, but needs to do a bit more to be greater than both (though personally I feel Lebron is already greater than Kobe-not Duncan). IMO if Rodgers ends his career with the highest qbr/TD-INT ratio ever, 3 superbowls, and 3 MVP's, he's the greatest. He's already the best. And I wouldn't compare Jordan to Montana, as Jordan had the greatest statistical dominance of all time as well as the clutch gene, whereas Montana really only had the latter.

You'll be happy to know ESPN ranks Dirk the 3rd greatest Power Forward in NBA history. 🙂

sports eat feces

I think Quan is leaving out the fact, that in the playoffs, Montana's rating, TD-to-INT ratio, and the like is vastly superior to Brady/Manning tier last I checked. Truth is, Joe Cool turned up his play, as well as numbers during the games that matters the most, while Peyton and Brady took a noticible dive statistically, speaking.
Edit: Did a check, it's not "vastly" like I said, but a difterence of 96 (Joe) and 90 (Brady/Manning) is noticible enuff.

I have Brady and Joe as equal's at the moment, personally. With Peyton an entire tier down. If Peyton can win another ring this year - I'll have him tied with Joe and Tom.

Montana didn't have rice for his first sbowl and ironically enough Brady didn't win when he had a hall of fame receiver in randy moss. Montana won a sbowl with a 10-6 niners team with rice whereas Brady lost to a 10-6 giants team with a hof receiver as well as an undefeated record to boot. Rings aloe to me don't decide this as we all know Jordan doesn't have the most rings but he does have the best game.

Brady already lost two rings and doesn't have the Montana moments. Look at Brady's first ring they shouldn't have gotten out of the raiders aside from that bullshit call that cost the raiders the game. The tuck rule game.

Rodgers needs to be more clutch. He needs to establish more clutch moments which is what Montana was. You couldn't rattle cool Joe. I bet if we asked Rodgers he'd agree Montana is the best.
