I don't remember why, but I was anti-rhetoric for a while back then, which obviously is a naive approach and it made our interchanges more spicy, but I only criticized you for turning "serious" discussions into banterfests.

Tempest doesn't really debate anymore. Tbh there are times when he'll respond to a series of detailed arguments with some vague witticism that doesn't actually refute or address what was being said. But he can do this, because he's established a strong reputation from his past, he's eloquent, he's very good at flattering people/building a personality, and every once in a while he pops in to to say something smart/produce an interesting quote or idea, just enough for people to continue to take him seriously.

It's brilliant, actually. I think there's a lot to learn from him.

Its because Nai and Moose are his only really real challenges at this point, and lately, Gideon has been winning.

Even against Nai, if people were keeping score, Gideon would be losing because Nai would produce like seven arguments, and then Tempest would just respond with some vague mockery and the occasional argument just thrown in to not be too blatant of a troll. It's not out of incompetence, it's just his persona now.

He seems to be a lot more wall-of-text oriented on other forums like spacebattles and comicvine.

He was still investing in debates during the days I was referring to which is like 2-3 years ago.

Yours is a good analysis of how he debates tbh. I don't disagree with it. He invested in accolades when they were ignored, stood his ground well against top debaters, and showed the perseverance to still be around and make sure the forum norms favor his beliefs. I joined the forums when I was more interested in ideas like "having impeccable perception that eventually leads to the ultimate truth" instead of having supreme rhetorical skills in my other areas of interest during the days when I first joined, so the timing wasn't very convenient with Temp. The fact that I was new and clueless and arguing (shamefully) against Sheev didn't help.

Old avatar was way cooler Ellimist.

👆 It'll be a sad day when he checks out the way of the rest of the old guard.

Temp's pretty trash, yeah.

An shit.

Yeah, I don't have much interest in wall-of-text debates anymore, with few exceptions. But, then, I don't really feel the need to.

Another Soul is lost, sad really. Ellimist' was entertaining. Perhaps another will take his place, one stronger and far more powerful than he.

You'd really think the first two temp bans would've gotten the message across.
