Besides accomplishing virtually nothing we couldn't on our own, and even that not being much of note, NATO is just the latest in a long line of European Alliances against the East. One need only to actually to look at the East to see how that's going.

The entire reason there's no response from the NATO nations is to avoid war. A war would happen if Russia comes towards places like Greece or the Baltics either way. A war the US in the current political climate, would join either way.
