i guess so.... Watch the potato video again.

Question:
IF most Muslims are against acts of Muslim terrorism, why don't I ever get emails like this from Muslims? These are a few isolated attacks on Jews on our campus, and BAM, i get this email that lets me know that in absolutely NO WAY does the University condone it, and its going to do everything it can to take care of the problem. If i heard this from Muslims more often, I would trust that they are peaceful more.

Dear IUB Student -
In the last week, rocks have been thrown through windows at the Helene G. Simon Hillel Center and the Chabad House Jewish Student Center, and a rock was thrown at the staff directory sign for the Jewish Studies program. There has also been vandalism of Hebrew books at the Wells Library. All these incidents have been reported to police and to the FBI and all are under intense investigation.
We explicitly condemn these criminal acts of vandalism on campus and in our community. The anti-Semitic significance of these targeted and malicious acts is beyond any serious doubt and cannot be minimized. There is no place for anti-Semitism at Indiana University or anywhere else. We will not tolerate intimidation of any kind against anyone in the university community, nor will we tolerate discrimination on the basis of race, gender, religion, ethnic origin, sexual orientation or political position.
Indiana University is a place where a spirit of learning and acceptance prevail and where all are welcome. We aim to ensure the safety and well-being of all members of our community, and we are governed by ideals of civility and respect.
We are committed to taking all steps necessary to keep our campus safe. The IU Police and the Bloomington Police are increasing uniformed and plain clothes patrols, and they are implementing a variety of measures to find and arrest the person or persons responsible for the incidents that have occurred. We will not tolerate this criminal activity. On the eve of Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, we once again affirm our commitment to enlightenment and civility.
Sincerely,
Karen Hanson
Provost and Executive Vice President

I don't understand what you're trying to say.

Muslims need to speak out against the violence if they want us to think they are against it.

IU has a no-smoking policy. However, they don't enforce it, they never send out emails about it, and no one believes they are actually against it.

However, in the case of anti-semitism, they send out this letter, speak out strongly against it, and I truly believe they are against it.

Same principle for Muslims and violence.

Remember that thing where we post tangentially related hyperpoliticized links (this is an op-ed piece, so it can't help but be politicized) in order to more fully dilute the conversation?

My turn!

Can you summerise it. I'd read it myself but....you know, effort. 😐

wikileaks = good

So, because you don't receive e-mails from Muslims, you therefore think that Muslims don't speak out?

My step father is(was) a Muslim, and I've seen my fair share of anti-islam extremism rallies and talks. Perhaps if you didn't avoid all Muslims under the assumption that they're terrorists, like you say you do, maybe you'd see some too.

I wonder if anyone truly believes Assange isn't going to be murdered in the coming weeks/months? Our government has executed for far less. This guy and his psychotic radical wife deserves death.

...w-what? What has he done that's made him "deserving of death"?

You don't just release classified information on that kind of magnitude and not expect repercussions. No, the public doesn't have a "right to know." He compromised national security as well as domestic and foreign policy. He will be executed in one way or another.

I'm actually amazed he wasn't stopped before the leak.

Same here.. But he can kiss his ass goodbye.

Killing him would turn him into a martyr. Wikileaks wouldn't vanish even if he did get offed. Not to mention the international outcry.

What international outcry? He's expected to get killed at this point. However, our government isn't going to do it just yet. If they wait a few months, the whole "martyr" thing will die down, and he'll be found in some back alley, part of a murder/robbery.

It's why I never bought in to the government-sponsored executions of JFK or MLK; they become martyrs to their cause. Assange will most likely be charged and imprisoned. Far less magnanimous than being assassinated.

It was certainly a stupid move but I don't think he should die for it...

As unsavory as the details of the information are, I still consider releasing highly classified government and military documents to the public to be tantamount to treason. The Rosenberg's were done in for espionage, Assange deserves no less.
