Jack Black Still Up for Green Lantern
'K. Mae' writes in with the resurfacing of Jack Black's name attached to the Green Lantern movie:
I was listening to the radio here in Portland and Jack Black was being interviewed and said that he's still actually up for Green Lantern. He told the hosts he's waiting on a script and he hopes it's good and that he doesn't sully the Green Lantern's name. I thought that project was dead but apparently Warner's is still at least thinking about it, with Jack Black still attached to it."

COREY REYNOLDS: GREEN LANTERN TO BE?
by Steve Fritz
If you were to ask Corey Reynolds, he’s having the time of his life.
Not even 30, he’s worked his way from regional theatre to Broadway and now to a key supporting role in TNT’s The Closer. Of course, this begs one highly important question for the actor who plays Sgt. David Gabriel.
Marvel or DC?
“I have my favorites on both sides, but my heart is with DC,” he replies, “because DC has the Green Lantern. Green Lantern is my favorite comic book hero.”
That begs a second critical question. So is your favorite Lantern? Hal? Guy? Kyle? Who?
“Now Hal Jordan is the ultimate Green Lantern,” Reynolds admits, “but my favorite is John Stewart. I believe that it really is about time for a black, traditional, All-American hero and Stewart represents that.
“He’s gone through everything from being paralyzed to being healed, to being placed in charge of it all, to patrolling 2814. He’s gone through everything. But when you look at his back story as far as where he comes from., how he grew up, that he’s an architect by trade, I think it’s very interesting to think that someone like him was given the ability to just about anything they want with their mind. I also think it’s interesting that he has such a creative mind to begin with. I love the whole idea that the combination of will and determination being the link to his abilities. So I think he would be a really interesting character to bring to the screen, and I’m working hard to make it happen.”
You read that right. Reynolds is currently hard at work on obtaining the rights to DC’s Green Lantern franchise. Ambitious, even for an actor who’s only truly starting to get his first true taste of national exposure. Then again, we’re also talking about one huge comic book fan here; one who is actually working for a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Stranger things have happened in Hollywood, and some have even worked out.
From the amount of thought Reynolds has put into John Stewart, he just might pull it off.
“I’d rather not discuss the business aspect as they are still very up in the air, but ultimately yes, it would be Warner Bros. I would be working with,” says Reynolds. “After all, they own the comic. Also, with the success of Batman Begins and the anticipated success of Superman Returns, there’s talk.”
There’s still one major question though, and that is what direction would Reynolds take this particular Emerald Knight? As he acknowledged, Stewart’s been through more than his share of changes since he was introduced. Also, there’s the matter of how he’s been redefined again through Bruce Timm and crew’s Justice League series.
“Story-wise the direction I’m going is more true to the comic,” says Reynolds. “What I think is interesting about this way is normally a lot of heroes are just born that way or are born knowing they have a path to travel. John always felt there was a purpose to his life, he just didn’t know what capacity it would be in. Then, all of a sudden, he is handed this tremendous gift and not everyone is prepared for that.
“I’d love for it to be a series. I think I would need about three films to tell the story that I’d want to. I’d like to use the first film to paint the picture of what he is as a man. I’d also challenge the viewer to what they would be like if they were given the same responsibility. How would they handle it? Hopefully that would be the bridge between all the versions of him.
“I think the interesting thing about bringing the big guy to the screen is finding the balance between those who see him the way Bruce Timm and Phil LaMarr made him, and the version in the comics,” says Reynolds. “If that isn’t enough, one also when doing a movie one also has to make him interesting to people who have never read the comics or seen the cartoon, especially as he doesn’t get as much hype as many other characters at DC. He’s not just what the younger kids have seen, this big brooding character from the cartoons.”
Reynolds also has a very strong idea what kind of movie his Green Lantern would be.
“Visually, I think the film could be stunning,” he said. “Bryan Singer would be the director I would salivate to have. When he worked on the X-Men movies he created this incredibly organic world that made you believe the characters that were in there. He really captured that series the way I think the fans would have wanted it to be.”
As for other Lanterns making an appearance, Stewart admits there he has to be a bit of a realist. “I think that’s something we will see happen. Some of them will be on screen while others will only be alluded to. I have to be careful to not step on other potential franchises. If possible, in the second film I want to throw a reference in to the League as a whole, and John joining.”
In the meantime, he appears to be having the time of his life playing Sgt. Gabriel.
“It has its plusses and minuses,” says Reynolds. “On the plus side I’m allowed to make mistakes. After all, it’s my first experience not only with a TV series, but with the camera altogether. Before The Closer my entire experience has been in live performance. So I’m going from stage to screen. The good news is everyone has their role both on the screen and in the family. I’m in the position that I can ask questions and not look silly.”
“Gabriel is the youngest of the characters, but he got there because he deserved to. After all, his rank is sergeant and all the characters know he’s on the accelerated path. He was also brought in because he’s one of the few who understand Kyra’s character as a person. He also knows she’s the best person he can have to mentor him and help him along on the path that’s been made for him. It’s very big sister/ little brother.
“Another thing about Gabriel, along with John Stewart for that matter,” Reynolds continues, “is both have an innate sense of seeing right from wrong. He also is compelled to insure that justice prevails. Last year was about establishing the relationships inside the squad. This season it will be about the squad going up against the LAPD as a whole. I think the viewers will really enjoy it.”
And working on a Warner Bros./Turner-produced show has its perks. For instance, Reynolds apparently has all the Justice League DVDs in his trailer for his viewing pleasure…including the unreleased stuff.
And as an admittedly huge comic book fan, the steady income of a successful TV actor has been doing wonders for the personal collection.
“I do a lot of my shopping through the Internet and especially eBay for things that are hard to find,” says Reynolds. “I recently found a mint condition 1984 Hall of Justice headquarters on there. The collection of action figures has exploded now that I have the resources to pamper myself with. I probably have a total of 600 to 700 action figures in my collection. The comic book collection itself was lost in my move from the East Coast to LA, where a lot of my good stuff got destroyed. I’ve recouped as much of it as I could but one thing I’m proud to say I have is a lithograph of John Stewart signed by Bruce Timm.”
Lord knows what will happen to that collection if the Warners does give this man the green light on the Lantern project. Then again, it probably couldn’t be in better hands."

A stewart movie ?
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.....
A gl movie would probably have John in it, and i honestly don't know why he gets so much hate from people.....I really don't wanna think its a racial thing. People should be above that.
But a GL movie, would work wonders to expose the cosmic scene to the people, and that would be great. But if he hasn't had his own show yet, then i doubt he'd get a movie.

It'd probably have Kyle... and if not Kyle then Hal.
Actually, it should probably have both. Let me explain.
1. Marvel had taken X-men and Spidey to the movies and they have cleaned up. Blade, Fantastic Four, Punisher, Hulk and Daredevil have all been made, with Ghost Rider, Iron Man, Ant Man, and Thor on the way. ALL of these heroes and their stories take place on Earth, where most people can 'relate' to them.
2. For DC, Batman and Superman have been made, and Wonder Woman is in the process. That leaves The Flash (who had a TV show), Aquaman, Hawkman (sort of), Green Arrow (who will soon be in Smallville), and Green Lantern.
3. Star Trek is over. Star Wars is over. Firefly/Serenity is over. As of right now, the only Giant Space Epic that can satisfy is Sci-fi Friday.
The Green Lantern is the ONLY DC hero that has the potential of filling the the Void of Space Epic, Blockbuster Movie, and Comic Book Superhero all at the same time.
That being said, instead of making one movie and hoping it does well, then following up with sequels to continue the story like the Marvel heroes are doing, Why not take the Peter Jackson/LOTR approach and write a 3-part Giant Space Epic? Hal and Kyle's story could (theoretically) both be told, all of the other Corps members could be in it, and we could have a new space saga to follow fanatically.
Any thoughts?
You mean have more of "Green Lantern Corps" than an actual "Green Lantern" movie? Like, instead of the usual "focus on one guy" story, have it more on the general idea of the GLC and the Guardians and whatnot? That's an idea...that way they could do a film about Hal, a film about Kyle, a film about John, etc.

DigiMark, I totally agree, they should do Alan Scott. That way, it's okay if it's a bit hoaky, they can make it a period film, have it be 1930s/40s (keep it away from the war though, just make it a gangster era homefront movie). Think something like the Untouchables or Road to Perdition for setting, and then have Alan Scott blazing through it with the green flame. Not sure who they should have for villains, but a sweet fight with Solomon Grundy is a must. As Grundy is made of plant matter, Alan has trouble using his ring against him, so it would be an innovative battle, not just Alan bludgeoning the monster. Then maybe Icicle or Sky Pirate.
I think with the 30s setting and the mystical nature of the character, it could be a great movie. Not all of these superhero movies have to be set in the modern day, I think if the Fantastic Four movie had been set in the 1960s it would have been infinitely better, and it would work well with a character who does have a set origin period.
Really good idea...
why all the hate for john? he's not that bad... though he wouldnt be my first choice i'll admit...
that actor guy at least knows what he's talking about... though it could be another daredvil... 😖

I like that idea too... though it might suffer as aopposed to a movie about a singular lantern...
well it makes sense as the GL corps is an interesting story to be told, having hal go nuts and cause mayhem to when kyle is found and replaces hal as the green lantern to then a sub plot of other GL's coming in to help, and then the big finally of the GL's facing off with classic enemies involved... it could be DC's finest moment in film
Okay, here's one idea that was posted on a different forum, along with some other great Ideas from other people about a movie featuring Kyle. This one is just to show how simple it would be to come up with a great storyline for a trilogy. Had to play around with the sequence of events, but here goes:
Movie 1 starts with Hal getting the Ring from Abin Sur. He uses it to 'right' a few personal 'wrongs' when the ring warns him that he is in danger of violating the Code of the GL Corps. It whisks him away to OA for Training. Legion shows up and causes a ruckus, Hal enters the central power battery to save the day, as in Emerald Dawn 1. After Working out an uneasy understanding with the Guardians, he is brought back to Earth as the new GL for Sector 2814. On Earth, he looks in the mirror and notices he's now gray at the temples. The movie ends with him wondering what on Earth is happening to him.
Movie 2 starts maybe 5 or 10 years down the road. Hal is a well-respected GL among the others, and has recruited both Guy and John into the Corps to take his place as he goes soul searching. Hal Deduces that Abin Sur's Crash and Legion's attack on OA were instigated by Sinestro, who is secretly plotting to destroy the Corps and then rebuild it in his own image. The Guardians put Sinestro on trial and, mostly through Hal's testimony, he is found guilty and sentenced appropriately. He escapes with help of the Qwardians who give him a yellow Power Ring, and exacts revenge on Hal by destroying Ocean city. Hal goes back to the Guardians to ask why they didn't prevent it, and goes mad with rage ("I want answers, Now!"😉. Hal hunts down Sinestro, and in a fit of rage, he snaps Sinestro's neck. Hal turns sour and starts destroying the Corps. The Guardians tell the rest of the Corps (including John, Guy and Kilowog) to stop Hal. They fail, Hal enters into the central power battery again, and it explodes with Hal appearing as Parallax. He destroys the rest of the Corps, but leaving John, Guy, and Kilowog alive, only taking their rings, leaving them stranded on OA. It ends Back on Earth with Kyle being given the last GL ring by Ganthet.
Movie 3 starts with Kyle going to OA to learn his inheritance and being encouraged by John, Guy, and Kilowog to get to the bottom of why his ring has no invulnerability to the color yellow. With Ganthet's help, they learn about Parallax and its imprisonment. Somehow, they find other GL rings - maybe hidden backups, and recharge them from a newly built central power battery, at that time free of the Parallax imprisonment so infection is not an issue. At this point, maybe Sinestro could come back in the third movie just as he did in GL: Rebirth, with the same explanation for his reappearance – basically the harbinger of Parallax itself. From this point, the rest of the story could be told as in GL: Rebirth. Ganthet teams up with the others to take Parallax out of Hal, who is getting close to destroying the universe, and Parallax infects Ganthet. Hal comes back to lead the others in fighting off Parallax and sending it out of Ganthet and back into the Power Battery. Hal is welcomed back, the rest of the Gueardians come back from some other dimension that they were hiding in, and they begin rebuilding the Corps.
The End.
Now, that's just one idea. Feel freee to post your own sequence, or add/modify/comment on this one.
sounds good, rather see kyle introduced in the second and continued in the third... more character building there, hal can then be reintroduced when parallax grasps ganthet, he escapes, the film continues the struggle until they meet for the final battle and the GL corps rebuilding, showing Kyle return to earth as it's protector and Hal overseeing the GL corps, and promises kyle he is free to come whenever he needs help, then intructs all the GL's to missions around the galaxy or universe depends what they want
Though I don't know all of the GL lore, just as a basic outline, I think I'd go with:
1. Hal Jordan becomes GL. Have the whole explanation and a villain, most likely Sinestro who is defeated but not killed. Instead, he's placed in a prison on Oa - I like the idea of Hal going into the power battery and then being altered, so keep that. Have it so that Hal feels as though he can't control his power since it was upgraded by going into the battery.
2. Hal goes nuts with power - start the Parallax section of the series. His ring gets sent to Kyle Rayner, who the Guardians consider to be the only one that can stop Hal, since the ring needed someone at least equal in power and spirit. Have another villain on the side that Kyle can take out, possibly even Sinestro after breaking out of his cell. Make it so, after finding out that Kyle was considered equal or better than Hal, feels angry and jealous, and attacks Oa, leaving them "in a pickle" so to speak lol, and goes on a rampage. The film ends without a solid climax.
3. In response to Parallax's destruction, the Guardians enlist the help of other GLs (here's your shot to throw in Guy, John, etc) and the goal of the film is to take out Hal, who, in the end, sacrifices himself to power up the battery once again.
