First of all, Venom isn’t my favorite character. In fact he’s far from. I wouldn’t mind if Venom wasn’t in the film(or any) at all. Get this… Spider-man isn’t even my favorite comic.

Anyway…

Yes I am concerned about Tohper Grace's look, we all know he doesn’t "look" like Eddie Brock (except maybe the Ultimate Version), but I am more concerned that he can not play the role of Eddie.

My concern is with the "hollywoodization" of our comic books. Topher Grace is not a super amazing actor. He did not get his claim to fame through his fabulous acting skill. Topher Grace was lucky. He played the roll of Eric Forman very well. I love That 70s Show. I think he plays the Geeky role very well. My feelings about him playing venom do not mean I hate his acting style or him. People are going to see the previews and say "hey isnt that Eric from "that 70s show" oh man hes so funny."

For those who don’t know, Topher Grace was in a High School play that the Casting Director for "That 70s Show" was attending. He (or she I forget) saw Topher in the play and thought he would fit the roll of Eric Forman and asked him to come addition. That’s how he got his acting job. He fit the roll of a geeky\skinny high school student. He looks like one and he acted like one because... get this... he was a geeky high school kid. It’s not hard to act like a high school kid when you are one.

Topher Grace is forever "Eric Forman" first and foremost. He is a big star and he was cast in the role of Eddie Brock because of his name and fame. Who in their right mind would look at him and think "Wow that guy really looks like Eddie Brock!" I can tell you who. Someone who doesn’t know the character or the comics. That is my big problem. People. Now other people who dont read the comics are going to look at Eddie Brock and think hes the "geeky\skiny" nerdy kid from high school.

Have you actually watched Topher's performances in other movies? (Win a Date with Tad Hamilton and In Good Company . Both those movies made a small splash on the big screen. Notice the role he was playing in both? In Win a Date he was a geeky friend to the girl who the movie centres around. For the movie In Good Company he wasn’t a "geeky" guy but he was set as a character who was an "unlikely boss" as in he didn’t fit the normal role of a boss figure "Older, Mature, Strong, Intimidating, Confident" and so on.

He is an actor who gets type cast because he has no real acting experience outside of his “geeky\high school student like roles.

In no way is Topher Grace experienced enough as an actor to play this role correctly. He doesn’t even have any experience playing a Antagonist in a movie or TV show.

Slight changes to characters and story don’t bug me that much. It’s the "Hollywoodization" I hate. I hate that they bring in big names to play different roles.

From what I can tell they are making Venom the "Evil" Spider-man rather than the anti-hero he should be. Not that this is some cool new direction the director\writer wants to take, it’s because the Hollywood executives don’t care how it should be done.

So now we get a character that’s been churned out of the Hollywood “InstaMovie” machine played by an inexperienced actor.

I’m sorry I express my concern and you seem to think I’m “whining.” At least I have more reason to be concerned than you have reason to be assured.

Why don’t you guys tell me why you think he’s going to do so well as Eddie Brock?

Here's my point: John Travolta starred in Saturday Nigh Fever and Grease... Then he was barely heard from until Pulp Fiction. And get this... He played a bad guy!! 😱

And your main point is that an actor (whose job is to play many different roles) who has only been on a tv show and about 2 movies, who hasn't had a bloody chance to play anything else; probably won't be able to pull off a villain? Wow...

Actually, Travolta has been in a good amount of films/shows. He was in Welcome Back Kotter as Vinnie Barbarino, The Tenth Level, Carrie, etc.
All in all, he's been in around 56 productions. Thank God for IMDb 😛

But not BIG films/shows. Not stuff that made people say: "Did you see that John Travolta movie?!"

Grease
Swordfish
Ladder 49
Be Cool
Face/Off ? 🤨 Those seem pretty big to me

4/5 of those are AFTER Pulp Fiction. Please read my post to understand my point.

He looks good. It looks like Raimi is going after the Ultimate Eddie Brock look instead of the regular one. I like this. They're obviously making Eddie the perfect parallel to Tobey. I like this too. And to further it I honestly don't think that when Venom comes out in his full glory he'll be a Juggernaut size monster. IMO he's going to stay the same toned size as Topher, only with the veins and whatnot.

Let's just hope he doesn't die like juggs did. Juggs died like a *****...

Spoiler:
Ran into a wall and died. 😂

Ummm I don't think Juggs died.He just got knocked out.

Yeah, he didn't die. He was wearing a helmet!

And he didn't die when Phoenix blew up the building either! Don't you know who he is? lol

Yeah I don't think that counts as dying in Hollywood movies 😆

Thanks for the links and info, TheOnes.

I always thought that USM's storylines would be highly adaptable into the films, though I'm not sure how I feel about it as it exists and conflicts with Marvel's traditional universe. I guess Grace does more closely resemble USM's Brock, but still lacks at least 50 or 60 pounds of muscle mass...

And I'm guessing that there has to be something about Topher Grace that was impressive enough to re-cast the role of Brock. Though he certainly looked the part, I guess the uncredited actor R.C. Everbeck (from the first move) wasn't what they were looking for.

I will try my best to reserve judgement, but it's gonna be tough. But I'm just not looking forward to seeing Venom in a movie nearly as much as I was a couple of years ago.

All I wanted was for them to do it right. 🙁

Not to mention there's now FOUR villains in SM-3.

Holy crammed movie Batman, someone is going to lose out on screen time.Actually I reckon a few characters will suffer.

theres nothing special about Topher Grace, if there was, he'd be in a lot more movies, than just Tad Hamilton's Date, and Good Company...lol

this movie will be more crammed than X3

He was good as the prepschool drug addict in Traffic, too.

Edit: and IMO, nothing can be more crammed then X3

John Travolta was never type casted. John Travolta never had to go from playing a skiny nerdy high school kid to someone like Eddie Brock. You can't really look at it the same way. I see what your saying.

My problem here is people are going to see "Topher Grace" first and the character of Eddie Brock after that. People are going to prejudge the character and assume if Topher is playing it, its going to be specific type of character.

Of course (as it has been said by myself and others) he wouldnt be SO bad as Ultimate Eddie Brock.

I'm sure Raimi sees something in him.

Oh, and I am BEYOND positive that 4 villains mean Harry, Sandman, Eddie (pre-Venomized *copyrighted term, lol*), and 1 short cameo (I speculate either Scorpion or Shocker, leaning more towards the latter).

Oh, and Nino? YOU ROCK!!! 😄

I'm gonna see the movie tonight. I'm getting this info from a friend.

She said, he sreamed :" Do you know who I am?! I'm the Juggernut, Bi*ch." He runs and while he's vunerable he runs into a wall before he could stop himself and died due to the head injurie.

I'm not saying that's what happened that's just what I heard.

But back to Tophy and Eddie...
