No, it wasn't tetconned. It's just that everyone's memories of it were wiped. Sentry briefly considered restoring everyone's memories of how the world used to be, but Emma Frost advised against it.

That's what I thought.

Sentry's first series hasn't been retconned. So holding the Cosmic Cube in his hands still stands.

But it didn't happen in the book.
It was just one of the flashback panels that most of his books have.
