with audio of the statements made by various public officials and others:

"We remain a hunted people. Now you think you have a destiny to fulfill in this land that has historically been ours for 40,000 years, and we're a new Mestizo nation. This is our homeland. We can not, we will not be made illegal in our homeland. We are not immigrants that came from another country. We are migrants that are free to travel the length and breadth of the Americas because we belong here. We are millions. We just have to survive. We have an aging White America. They are not making babies. They are dying. It's a matter of time. The explosion is in our population." - Jose Angel Gutierrez, Professor - University of Texas, Arlington

"It's not enough to elect Latino leadership if they are supporting legislation that denies the undocumented, then they don't belong in office, friends. They don't belong here." - Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor - Los Angeles

"And those rednecks that are out there making decisions for the betterment of their communities will think twice before they push forward anti-immigrant legislation against our community. You can be as revolutionary as you want. You can be Chicano Nationalist. You can believe in the concept of Aztlan. You can believe in the concept of multiculturalism. You don't have to give your lives, we are not at that point. But we can give a little." - Fabian Nunez, Speaker - California State Assembly

"Aztlan. The nation of Aztlan. You know when the extreme right wing talks of Aztlan, I guess it's from a guilty complex, 'cause they know what they did in Texas." - Herman Baca - Chicano Committee on Civil Rights

"We have the army. We have the infantry. We have the artillery, but we have to combine it under one organized command so we can wage an effective common-enemy war against those racists that are trying to continue to discriminate and beat us down into submission." - Armando Navarro, Professor - UC Riverside

"The last gasp of White America. Understand that!" - Art Torres, Chairman - California Democratic Party

"And people say to me on the Sentate floor, when I was in the Senate, why are you fight so hard for affirmative action programs, and I tell my White colleagues that you are going to need them! " - Art Torres, Chairman - California Democratic Party

"Think about when we look out at the audience and we see, you know, La Familia, La Raza, it's a good feeling. Isn't it a good feeling? And then I started thinking about that and it reminded me a book we all read and we all heard about, you know, Paul Revere, you know, and his, uh, when he said, "The British are coming, the British are coming". Well, the Latinos are coming, the Latinos are coming! So that's what this agenda is all about. It's about ensuring we increase our numbers. That we increase our numbers in every level, and let me tell you, we can't go back. We are in a Civil War. United Latinos will win!" - Joe Baca, Senator - California State

"The defacto elimination of the border between Mexico and the United States. I believe that the debate about our immigration policy should reflect the fact that this phenomenon is under way." - Tom Tancredo, Congressman - Colorado

What is this? Slander or truth? I got it in an email, but I wasn't sure of it's veracity.

CNN Cites White Supremacist Group on Lou Dobbs Tonight (Updated)

As CNN reporter Casey Wian said on Lou Dobbs Tonight, “Utah is also part of the terrority some militant Latino activists refer to as Aztlan, the portion of the southwest United States they claim rightfully belongs to Mexico,” CNN used this graphic (Watch the Quicktime video, via People for the American Way):

If you look at the bottom-right corner, CNN sourced the Council of Conservative Citizens (CCC). The Anti-Defamation League describes the group on their website as a white supremacy organization. Specifically:

Background: Established by former activists in the segregationist White Citizens’ Councils
Ideology: White supremacy, white separatism

[…]

Approach: Advances its ideology by inflaming fears and resentments, among Southern whites particularly, with regard to black-on-white crime, non-white immigration, attacks on the public display of the Confederate flag, and other issues related to “traditional” Southern culture.
Connections: Several mainstream figures have spoken at or attended CCC meetings, including Senator Trent Lott; Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour; Mississippi state senators Gary Jackson and Dean Kirby; and several Mississippi state representatives. Former governors Guy Hunt of Alabama and Kirk Fordice of Mississippi also spoke at CCC meetings.
Extremist associations: David Duke, Mark Cotterill, Chris Temple, Jared Taylor, Paul Fromm

From a December 2002 article in the Washington Post, which Senator Trent Lott said the country would have been better off if Strom Thurmond won the 1948 presidential election at Strom’s 100th birthday party/retirement celebration. Thurmond ran as a segregationist-candidate:

In 1998 and 1999, Lott was criticized after disclosures that he had been a speaker at meetings of the Council of Conservative Citizens, an organization formed to succeed the segregationist white Citizens’ Councils of the 1960s. In a 1992 speech in Greenwood, Miss., Lott told CCC members: “The people in this room stand for the right principles and the right philosophy. Let’s take it in the right direction, and our children will be the beneficiaries.” (emphasis mine)

A secondary issue at play here is the idea of “Aztlan,” and what that means to certain people. David Neiwert wrote about it earlier this month and how the right-wing is using “Aztlan” as evidence of a Mexican desire to “reclaim” the American southwest in the name of the “reconquista.”

Updated 4:54pm Liberal Oasis has more on Trent Lott’s CCC ties from a 1999 Washington Post article and a John Nichols article in The Nation.

Updated 5:05pm People for the American Way caught this video of a New York radio personality (name escapes me) say:

“Let’s face it Lou. I know people talk about the Irish immigrats but this is a Mexican thing, alright? And I have a very simple solution in New York. If you want to arrest an illegal alien in New York, order a pizza. When they show up, arrest them because they are all over here.”

Ah yes, the army of illegal alien pizza delivery guys. They thought they could hide forever!

Updated 6:43pm David Neiwert also has the background on the “Aztlan theory.”

Relative to the link, not the thread.
