Science and Religion - Crying is Good

"Crying is Good"

Wherever we go today, we could see different recreational centers all around us, where people go to in order to be entertained. There are entertainment houses, disco houses, theaters, play stations, and other sports facilities where one can find fun and enjoyment. This only proves that most of the people today are pleasure-seekers. They seek for pleasure because there is also a growing misery, failures, and tribulations in their lives. And all these result from man’s disobedience to God. Man seems to be in an endless search for pleasure, but instead of finding it, his sadness only grows more. Apparently, entertainment houses is not really the remedy to man’s sadness.

Do you know that it is better to cry than to have fun? It may be contradictory to common belief but this could be reflected in Ecclesiastes 7:2. It says—

“It is better to go to the house of mourning than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart.”
Ecclesiastes 7:2

Do you know that crying can be a good medicine for stress? This was found out in a study conducted by experts in America. Based on the research, crying lightens one’s feelings, and people with positive attitude towards crying have a very slim chance of developing ulcer, colitis, and other stress related diseases.

Dr. William H. Frey II, a biochemist, found out that tears have a complex chemical composition more that others think. Researchers found out that there is a big difference between tears caused by joy, anger, and sadness and tears caused by irritation. Based on research, emotional tears contain more substances that our body develops whenever we are under stress. And this is hazardous to one’s health. Because of this, it is believed that crying is an effective way of eliminating wastes in our body because tears remove these stress-related substances. This is the reason why a person feels better after crying. Also, according to reports, tears caused by emotional outbursts have higher protein concentration, which cures emotional stress.

Crying that is triggered by emotional pain is not something that one should be ashamed of, inasmuch as this is but one natural physical process, which is very helpful in easing one’s pain. One psychotherapist said that, “Crying is good for the soul. It opens the lungs, washes the countenance, exercises the eyes, and softens down the temper.” That is why we can say that the Bible is a book that never goes out of fashion. What the Bible said thousands of years ago, are being confirmed by Science today. And one of these truths pertains to crying.

One more thing, for God, a broken and contrite heart is better than a rejoicing heart. This could be read in Psalms 51:17—

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”
Psalms 51:17

This is a key to success and prosperity. In every field of endeavor, success and victory become attainable if our efforts are coupled with tears. Let the tears fall as we struggle for victory.

Interesting thread.

This only proves that most of the people today are pleasure-seekers. They seek for pleasure because there is also a growing misery, failures, and tribulations in their lives. And all these result from man’s disobedience to God.
People IMO shouldn't seek pleasure in things outside themselves, but be content in what they have. Find importance in the little things in life and see everything and everyone as a gift. To seek out pleasure outside of yourself, will always leave you wanting...Once you see all things/people as a gift, then you can share more freely...

As for crying, it's only natural to cry. We need to grieve, mourn, learn, but to also move on...

Other scriptures say:

Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart is a good medicine; but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

Prov. 15:13 A glad heart makes a cheerful face; but an aching heart breaks the spirit.

Prov. 15:15 All the days of the afflicted are wretched, but one who has a cheerful heart enjoys a continual feast.

I find a merry heart much more healing. Also medical studies have shown this to be true.........So, it's not a great idea to dwell on sorrows for too long. It also causes sickness and disease. 🙂

Dangers of Meat-Eating

"Dangers of Meat-Eating"

Do you know that, based on research, people who are basically meat eaters, like the Eskimos, easily grow old and live shorter? Their average life span is only 28 years. Another group is the Kirgese, a nomadic tribe in Eastern Russia. They are also fond of eating meat. In effect, they mature easily and die easily as well. Very few among them surpass the age of 40.

On the other hand, in an investigation conducted by anthropologists, they discovered that the people who are not fond of eating meat possess healthier bodies and they live longer. Just like the Hunzas in Pakistan, the Otomi tribe in Mexico, and the natives of South West Africa, who live for more that 110 years.

Do you know that World Health statistics shows that countries that have higher meat consumption have greater incidents of heart ailments and other diseases? This is contrary with non-meat-eating countries. Do you know the reason why meat eaters are more prone to illnesses and why they live shorter? One of the reasons is the gradual poisoning of their tissues caused by the toxic by-products that should have been removed from the meat of the animals we are eating.

Do you know that the biochemistry of an animal changes when it is frightened, especially while on the verge of being butchered? If people get sick because of great fear, the same is true with animals. In frightening instances, their bodies undergo profound biochemical changes. The hormone level in their blood and their adrenalin increase whenever they see other struggle while being killed. These hormones, which stay in the meat, eventually poison the human tissues. Perhaps, this is the reason why God commanded Israel to pour out the blood of the animal, which they kill, and cover it with dust. Because most of the toxic materials are mixed with the blood. This could be read in Leviticus 17:13, which says--

“And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beat or fowl that may be eaten; he shall pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust.”
Leviticus 17:13

According to scientists, the poisons in the body, including the uric acid and other toxic wastes, are in the blood and tissues. That is why, the meat of an animal carcass is laden with toxic blood and other waste by-products. Do you know why most meat eaters easily develop cancer? According to authorities, one possible reason is the fact that the meat of an animal that has been dead for several days is already rotting. Its color becomes greenish and grayish. But meat dealers try to conceal it by adding nitrates, colorings, and other preservatives to make it reddish in color again. However, these chemicals and preservatives can cause cancer. Dr. William Lijinsky, a cancer researcher said, “I don’t even feed nitrate laden foods to my cat.” From this, we can already discern that if they should not be fed to animals, the more they should not be fed to humans.

Do you also know that British and American scientists who studied intestinal bacteria among meat eaters saw a great difference between the intestinal bacteria of meat eaters and vegetarians. They found out that the bacteria in the intestines of meat eaters react on digestive juices in order to produce a chemical that causes cancer.

Another cause of cancer is the chemicals that are eaten by animals whenever they eat grasses and plants that were sprayed with pesticides. This is very rampant today because almost all fields and plantations in the world are being sprayed with chemicals like pesticides and commercial fertilizers. Do you know that these poisons are retained in the body of the animals? Therefore, when people eat the meat of these animals, which ate plants that were sprayed with chemicals, they poison is being transferred to them. In other words, man becomes the final consumer and recipient of the most poisonous substances, which, in turn, cause cancer and fatal liver ailment. Not only that. The animals also undergo many chemical treatments to make them fatter and bigger in built. In order to earn more profits, the raisers of these animals feed and inject them with hormones so that they grow bigger. They are also being given appetite stimulants, antibiotics, and chemical feed mixtures, most of which are found to cause cancer among humans.

For this reason, we have to contemplate on what St. Paul said in Romans 14:21--

“It is neither good to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.”
Romans 14:21

Indeed, the doctrines of the Gospel never become obsolete. However, the Gospel does not really prohibit us from eating meat. It is a part of the faith of a Christian that he should restrain himself in eating meat. As written in Proverbs 23:20--

“Be not among wine bibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh.”
Proverbs 23:20

Another hazard of meat eating is that, many animals, which are sick, are being slaughtered still. And this is ignored by meat producers and meat inspectors. Sometimes, they only remove the infected part and sell the remaining parts. What is worse is, there are occasions when the infected part is still mixed with mixed meats like hotdogs, meat loaves, etc.

Do you know that meat passes the digestive system very slowly, unlike other foods? It is estimated that, it takes five days before meat is discharged out of our body, while fruits and vegetables take only a day and a half. That is why, during that span of time, the disease-causing products are having a constant contact with our digestive organs.

Do you believe that we, humans, are not meant to become meat eaters? This is the findings in a research conducted by experts. It is said that, there are three classifications of vertebrates: the meat eaters, the fruit eaters, and the grass, of leaf, eaters. They said that the intestines of meat eaters are only three times longer that their bodies, while the intestines of fruit and grass eaters are almost ten to twelve times longer. This is to allow the meat eaters to discharge from their bodies more easily the wastes cause by the spoiled meat, which can poison the blood. Also, when the physical characteristics of carnivorous animals like lion, tiger, leopard, and others, were examined, they found out that they do not have molars that would grind the food, but fangs instead, which they use in devouring meat. One more thing, do you know that they do you know that their skin do not perspire, but their tongues? They also have claws which they use in capturing and ripping the bodies of other animals.

The acid in the belly of carnivorous animals is ten times higher, so that they can digest even hard bones and meat fibers.

The opposite is true among the fruit and grass eaters. They have molars, which they use in grinding vegetables and grains. They do not have claws, and their skin perspires. And if we are going to study further, we can prove that these features fit the human beings. That is why experts believe that meat is not the intended food for humans. And this is confirmed by the Bible because, when God created man He placed him in a garden, and there he was commanded to eat the fruits of the trees. Genesis 2:16 says,

“And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat.”
Genesis 2:16

Undoubtedly, we can survive by eating meat although it is not the intended food for us. However, meat eating can cause us many problems and illnesses. I repeat, Christians are not forbidden from eating meat, but the Bible has a very wise advice for us: Do not eat too much of it. Understanding the nature of man may help a Christian a lot, so that he can serve God with an active and healthy body. III John 2 says--

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
III John 2

Please take note that a preacher of God is concerned with the health of the flock that he is leading. Just like God, who is taking care of the body, the soul, and the spirit of His servants. This could be read in I Thessalonians 5:23-24--

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit, and soul, and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”
Thessalonians 5:23-24

The Dangers of Too Much Sugar Intake

Do you know that excessive sugar intake causes great harm to the body? It causes many illnesses, foremost of which is what many regard as a silent epidemic, diabetes. According to doctors, there are about 100 million people all over the world who suffer from diabetes, and its main cause is the excessive sugar intake, especially the refined sugar. It had been proven that taking in too much sugar is the primary cause of tooth decay and obesity, while eliminating sugar from the list of our foods removes the signs of many illnesses like diabetes, cancer, crippling, and heart ailments.

Sugar is a term applied loosely to any of a number of chemical compounds in the carbohydrate group that are readily soluble in water, colorless, odorless, and sweet in taste and are usually crystallizable. Generally, all monosaccharides, disaccharides, and trisaccharides are called sugar, aside from the polysaccharides like starch, cellulose, and glycogen. Sugar can be found anywhere in nature. It can be manufactured by plants through the process of photosynthesis. And it can also be found in many animal tissues.

Ribose, a type of monosaccharide sugar that contains five carbon atoms in its molecules, is a component of many animal cells. Other sugars that can be found in nature are pentose, triose, heptose, octose, and nonose. But the most common of them is the hexose’s sugar.

The most important among the hoxose’s sugars are glocose, galactose, anf fructose. Glucose, lactose, maltose, and sucrose are the most common forms of commercial sugar, which are also called saccharose, or cane sugar. And they are often used as a sweetening agent in the manufacture of candies, cakes, puddings, preserves, soft drinks, alcoholic beverages, and other foods. Almost half of the supply of sugar in the world comes from sugar cane, which grows in tropical and subtropical places.

In Europe, the most common source of sugar is the root of sugar beet, a plant that usually grows in Russia, France, Poland, US, and in other European countries. Countries that have the greatest production of sugar include Brazil, Cuba, Australia, Mexico, and India, wherein there are also high incidents of diabetes.

Do you know that sugar undergoes several processes in the sugar refineries? Sugar extract, or sugar beet, is cooked under a very high temperature in order to make it syrupy. And then, it is strained. After that, it is mixed with chemicals like sulphur dioxide to make it white. The sugar that is produced out of this process is called first sugar, or raw sugar. In the refinery, the raw sugar is again dissolved, whitened, and crystallized. The result is the white, refined sugar, which is basically without any nutrients, and it is even harmful to the body. The molasses is just one of the by-products of sugar manufacturing, which is being used in making ethyl alcohol, rum, and table syrup, also as flavoring and food for animals.

According to experts, sugar is lethal when ingested by humans because it provides only that which nutritionists described as empty, or naked, calories. Do you know that sugar absorbs many important vitamins and minerals in our body? And because of this, we feel weak and even get sick. The daily intake of sugar results to a continuous over-acid condition of the body. And to neutralize this imbalance, and to protect our blood, our body utilizes many vital minerals including calcium. As a result, our bones and teeth are denied of calcium, which result to dental decay. Excessive intake of sugar also affects many organs of the human body. These excesses are deposited to the liver in the form of glucose (glycogen). The excess glycogen goes back to the blood in the form of fatty acids, which become fats to the inactive areas of the body like the tummy, thighs, and chest. When these inactive areas become filled with fats, it will begin to affect the active organs of the body like the heart and the kidney, and it may also result to abnormal blood pressure.

Too much sugar intake also affects our parasymphatetic nervous system and its organs like the small brain, which may become inactive or paralyzed. It may also affect the circulatory or lymphatic systems. Because of this, the production of new tissues is hampered. This is the reason why wounds of a diabetic hardly heal. It also limits the tolerance and immunizing power of the body that is why it cannot respond to extreme attacks like cold, heat, mosquito bites, or microbes.

Sugar badly affects our brain functioning. According to science, the key to a normal brain functioning is glumatic acid, which can be derived from vegetables and Vitamin B. It is manufactured by the beneficial bacteria in our system. But our constant sugar intake kills these helpful bacteria in our body. And this would result to an insufficient stock of Vitamin B.

Do you know that excessive sugar intake also makes a person feel drowsy, poor in computation, and forgetful? So, if we want to stay healthy for us to continue with our service to God, let us refrain from taking in white or refined sugar. It is fatal to our body.

3 John 2 says,

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”
III John 2

The preacher of God wants the physical body of the members of his flock to be healthy. If only St. John knew the harmful effects of too much sugar to the body, he could have surely taught it to his members.

“That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
II Timothy 3:17

And this is one of the good things that must be taught to the people of God. If we want sugar, instead of the refined sugar, we can opt for the natural sugar, which can be found from natural sources like fresh fruits, sugar cane, and natural raw and wild honey.

Proverbs 24:13 says,

“My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy tongue.”
Proverbs 24:13

However, we always have to observe moderation. Proverbs 25:27 says,

“It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.”
Proverbs 25:27

We only have to eat the right amount. As Proverbs 25:16 says,

“Hast thou found honey? Eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.”
Proverbs 25:16

Let us remember that the reason why we eat is to live – to be strong and healthy, to be able to serve God. This is written in Luke 10:27.

“And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and will all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.”
Luke 10:27

But, if what we are going to eat will only harm and weaken our body, we better avoid it.

The Ants

Do you know that, according to the Bible, God created four other intelligent creatures, next to man? They do not include dogs, gorillas, and monkeys, which others thought to be second to man in terms of intelligence. Aside from that, the advocates of the theory of Charles Darwin have this wrong belief that monkeys, or apes, are the direct descendants of man. They believe that man evolved from a lower form of living things. Unfortunately, that is against what the Bible says.

Do you know that, according to the Bible, the ants have a superior intelligence, which is almost second to man’s? Proverbs 30:24-28 says--

“There are four things which are little upon the earth but they are exceeding wise: The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer; The conies are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks; The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands; The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in kings’ palaces.”
Proverbs 30:24-28

While Proverbs 6:6-8 says--

“Go to the ant, thou sluggard, consider her ways, and be wise; Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.”
Proverbs 6:6-8

We have to remember that it is the Bible itself that considers the ants as wise. And in their being wise, they no longer need any ruler, or leader, for them to enjoy a sophisticated way of life.

Do you know that the ants’ dwelling place is even air-conditioned? They are storing food for the entire duration of the rainy season. They have their own knowledge in agriculture. They collect organic matters, which serve as their food during the lengthy rainy season.

Do you know that the ants that we see everyday are mostly female? They live in a colony that is made up of more than one million members, workers, and soldiers that are all females. The male ants die after the queen ant fertilizes. The queen ant’s only duty is to lay about 50,000 to 100,000 eggs a day.

According to studies conducted by zoologists, there about 12 million to 14 million kinds of ants in our planet. And like humans, they are found in almost all habitable places, except in mountains that are covered with ice, and in the polar region. Based on studies, the ants have unusual physical features. Their head is made of a special sensor that easily identifies chemical and visual signs. In addition, they have about half a million nerve cells in their brain. They have a keen vision and a sensitive hair that responds to anything attached to it. Their teeth are as sharp as a carving tool. They have strong muscles that allow their six legs to move. When needed, they are able to secrete liquid from their special glands that warn their companions in case of an impeding danger. Out of their poison glands, they are able to discharge formic acid and other poisons, which they use against their enemies. Their antenna functions as their nose and fingers.

Within 24 hours, they are able to build their houses. And this lasts for more than a month, and this is where their queen lay eggs. There is another colony of ants, which is called “army ants,” that build their houses neither on the ground nor on trees. Their bodies linked together serve as a shelter for their queen. About 200,000 to 750,000 ants link their bodies together in order to cover the queen and her young. But when morning comes, the separate. Other ants, however, live underground.

According to reports, the ants are able to dig about 40 tons of soil in order to build their gigantic home. A colony of ants can maintain 150 houses, and they are able to patrol 1,600 square metes. The territory of ants is one of the biggest in the world of insects. The soldier ants stay only on the sides of their house in order to guard it from attacks of enemies. Should enemies come, they send a signal that could be smelled by their comrades so that they could be given reinforcement. They surround their enemies and spit on them formic acid. And when they are killed, they bring them to their camp to be eaten.

Do you know that ants are able to communicate and send messages to their colleagues by means of a liquid called “pheromone”? This is the reason why when an ant discovers food deposits, it could easily call on its companions who would gather them.

Another remarkable trait of ants is their industry. One can never see a sleeping ant. Have you seen one? That is why an ant is being used as a paragon of industry. As written in Proverbs 6:6-10--

“Go to the ant, thou sluggard, consider her ways, and be wise; Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth, her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? When will thou arise out of thy sleep? Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep.”
Proverbs 6:6-10

Let us not be lazy; let us not be sluggards. It is not good to be one.
