depends on where you go how hard the accent is to follow, in new south wales, queensland and victoria its not so "harsh" but when you hit the Northern Territory or Western Australia you get some of the real bad ones, the people who walked out of a Crocodile Dundee set and back to life without changing. personally i think most Americans who dont like out accent dont like it because we talk faster, it just goes by to quick more than what we say confuses them.
i live with an american at the moment and i dont understand her sometimes, it kinda blurs into one long nothing, but you get used to it.
