Ridiculous or not, it sort of makes sense if you know the character a little.
There are a lot of characters with supposedly unlimited strength, mostly godlikes. But what makes Hulk's unlimited strength a bit more special is that he can obtain that kind of strength, through increased adrenaline, not pull it out of his jacket. There are certain rules and conditions for it. This allows for certain personal- AND action hero arcs and makes the character more about hidden potential that can be realized, which I happen to find a good deal more interesting than some uber-god or uber-alien who have infinite power at their disposal. What I'm saying is that the Hulk is not just your ordinary powerhouse, his strength is directly tied to his(and Bruce Banner's) persona without making the character superficial.
But that's just me, I can understand why some people think it's stupid.

The proof has been shown to you and others, you can think it's stupid all you want but Hulk's Strength and the fact that he no longer needs to breathe have to be accepted given the sheer amount of proof given.
It's not like he's the wonkiest character made *coughPre-CrisisSupescough*

Ok....though i still don't like it..... but why doesn't he need to breathe anymore?
I don't have the comic myself, but Fury said that he apparantly didn't need te breathe in space anymore because of his adaptive skills. The Hulk's body has always had those skills, because of the radiation in his blood which is capable of sustaining him in uncertain situations. And apparantly, that specific comic took it to an all new level. Nothing too far fetched for Hulk.

Yeah... do that... I wanna see this for myself
Issue #90
Hulk has his breather broken halfway through the fight. 4 pages later he gets a metal tentacle through the ear and is taken in the sattelite
Page before the tentacle, Hulk talking in space.
Issue #91
Banner gets pulled out into space as he transforms
12 pages later he gets into a ship that doesn't show any atmosphere (Doesn't say there isn't one either) and Talks.
Issue #92
Hulk screaming in space and surviving direct exposure to whatever stresses weaken people going through this wormhole. Everyone passing through including the Silver Surfer have been affected by it.
I hope this all helps.
