For the same reasons Wolverine was a finalist, his fans. I don't think that people hate the characters, they hate the way their fans make both out to be unbeatable by anyone who's not uber powerful. Just the other day I was in a debate about Pre-Crisis Supes and one of his fans was saying that because forum rules state that both characters fight to the best of their ability, HIS Superman(and yes he did say "my Superman", had an instance of fighting on a giant chunk of kryptonite, that HIS Superman was immune to kryptonites effect. HIS Superman had unlimited strength, speed, immunity to kryptonite and red sunlight, and could produce any power that he wanted. From his description, not even a well written Darkseid could beat him. That kind of attitude drives everybody crazy, and causes a general dislike of the character.

Every character has crazy fans. That's NO reason to hate the actual character itself. Not liking the fans is one thing, but the character is actually very good.

I'd dislike Supes regardless of his fans. There are too many that act like you're talking about their mother when you dis him though. Supes appeared @ a time when others weren't around, thus standards were very low back then

Bats has some pretty annoying fans, but he's still cool

I hate:
-Superman
-Spider-Man
-The Fantastic Four
-Everything and anything that is in any way, shape or form related to Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, or anything with the name "Dragon Ball" on it
-Everything that has something to do with Rob Liefield, Simon Furman, and whoever wrote that horrible Avengers/JLA thing
-Anything Japanese or that is related to anime or manga, unless it's hentai
-Anything politically correct
-Batman

There's probably lots of other stuff out there I hate, but I don't think I can remember it all right now.

Yes, but both have the biggest following in thier company. So you see more of them.

Eh, it's debatable between Spider-man and Wolverine in terms of who's the more popular Marvel character. 😬

I'd say Spidey's the icon in Marvel and Bats is that for DC & they're both cool. So is Wolvie

Batman is cooler, but no doubt that the icon of DC was and will always remain to be Superman.

Bats is waaaaaaaaaay cooler than Supes(That's really not saying much though) and I think he's more popular. I once saw an art book titled "How to draw Batman" in big letters. It had "& other DC heroes" in smaller letters. Batman runs DC!

Alright I am havin a special finaley where they both start at zero and first to ten wins because only biased people are voting (which is cool) but then you have complainers so 1 vote (but because Superman should have one so he starts with 2) each here we go: Wolverine 0, Superman 2
