And once again I'll remind you that these Spartan III's are not the same Spartan III's in the Ghosts of Onyx.

I have yet to read that book, but I hear they made the Spartan III's wussies in that book.

Either way, Kurt's proceduers only applied to his last Spartans, and they don't even apply regardless. Those were Ackerson's expendable Spartans. They wore SPI's and had much less effective enhancements. There weren't any genetic requirements for selection... Just a bunch of homeless kids. Those Spartans were created and trained on Onyx. Rae's Spartasn are a third generation of Spartan, and one created again by Dr Hasely. Thus, Spartan-III's under Hasely's project are not impervious to shock, and I doubt they are as highly unstable and prone to illogical aggresion as Spids. (I like to call Ackerson's Spartans Spids... SPI.)

The SPARTAN-III's in Ghosts of Onyx are as hardcore and metal tough as the II-series, if not more. They're more resistant to shock as well. It's their armour that's so wimpy. If they had Mark VI MJOLNIR, then they'd be nigh unstoppable on a battlefield.

The Spartan III's in Onyx are not wusses. They are as much Spartans as any other. They lack the equipment.

Axel, one of the originals, had recently returned from the dead. I think.

Actually, Axel saved Abbra (my own character) during one (or the first) mission. While saving her, he got shot in the eye and of coarse had to leave.
In that time, while he was presumed dead by many all the other Spartans, he as infact grown to be the strongest, most efficient solider of them all. But in turn he's had to sacrifice his own personality to succeed.
Now he's introduced to his former team mates, who have not seen war, and are not as mature as he is. Axel is a firm believer in discipline are order, which he believes every single one of them lack. Not only is he horribly disappointed, he doesn't know how to handle them and is conflicted. Every time he shows any sort of compassion, something has gone horribly wrong, or somebody had died. But none of his former friends can possibly grasp that concept, and in turn, makes him seem horribly smug.
